I have wanted to buy and shoot an O/U shotgun since I was a young man. So after researching various makes and models, I decided to try a lower cost gun to see if I would even like it. I landed on the Savage 555E model for several reasons. The "E" model (enhanced) is a nice looking gun to start with and I've gotten quite a few compliments on it at the range. The wood to metal finish isn't what you'd find on a more expensive gun, but I was more concerned with function and shootability. The first time I picked it up it pointed perfectly for me which was a great relief, not ever having one in my hands before. The LOP is right at 14.5 inches and it weighed in at 6lb 4 ozs. I personally like the lightness of this gun as it doesn't produce a shooting fatigue issue and pointing with it is a breeze. Anticipating a harsher recoil than my SA's, I put an aftermarket recoil pad on it. I've only shot some 3 dram 1-1/8 oz 1290 fps target loads in it and can barely tell he difference between it and the SA's. The trigger does have quite a bit of slack in it before to the bottom of the trigger pull, but as I shoot it more, I don't notice it anymore. This "Enhanced" 555E model does have the "ejectors" vs the "extractors". It pops the empty shell out the fired barrel(s) quite handily. The safety on this model "does not" return to safe automatically when opened. I'd rather it did. The "0" convergence of the two barrels seems to be set at about 25 yds (which can vary among O/U's). The center of the barrels are about 7/8 of an inch apart. At 32 yds, the center of the bottom barrel is about 1.5 inches higher than the center of the top barrel. Some people seem to have trouble with this type barrel convergence (which is somewhat apparent in all O/U's) but I dusted clay targets a 40 yds with both barrels shooting the factory supplied Improved modified in the top barrel and the full choke in the bottom barrel. Overall thoughts: I love this gun. It's light and pointable, and the recoil is acceptable, and I hit well with it. For the price point, I believe this to be a great gun to enter in to the O/U field of shotguns. There are no doubt higher quality O/U's out there but, budget oriented shooters like me could do well with the Savage 555E. I gave this gun a 5 star rating considering guns within its pricepoint. Trying to compare it to a $3-5k O/U would be unreasonable.

As always, Buds has been outstanding! -The 555e has served me well. I share this shotgun with my wife and 2 bums(nephews) that come with us to the range . We’ve collectively sent around 1,700 shots at clays with this 555e this year , casually with friends at a local course . I am overall pleased . Today I shot my first ever tournament , and I am really feeling those shots this evening . The lighter weight has been great until today. On station 4, my 555e gave me my first problem . The clip to hold the forend popped open into my hand AFTER EVERY SINGLE SHOT . It’s all my mind could focus on . I started shooting terrible popping the lever back in between shots on true pairs . Eventually we held up, I grabbed duct tape from a fellow shooters grandfather and finished the round. It’s awful embarrassing shooting with two Krieghoff and 1 browning shooter , and having to tape my gun together . I have already made an appointment with a gunsmith to check it out . I still recommend this shotgun to anyone looking under $1,000 for their first over/under . I am looking to upgrade , now that I know more about what I want . My wife has already claimed ownership and wants to continue to shoot this 555e.

Think the listed price is incorrect at $6,543. More like $654. Anyway purchased this just to own a traditional style shotgun with an attractive wood stock and engraved receiver. The stock on the firearm I received was beautiful. Deep translucent grain looks like tiger-wood. Simple mechanism. Works great. Reliable. Trigger pull is a bit high and kinda tough. Not a finely machined piece with perfect tolerances . About what I expected at this level. It’s my hike with my wife and look for grouse gun. Definitely not a competition trap gun. Yup, I’d buy it again.

Great little shooter. It is a pretty light gun, so it kicks smaller shooters a little more. Have taken a lot of birds with this gun already.

Outstanding firearm! Especially for this price! Gorgeous walnut stock and forearm, super nice engraved receiver. Lightweight and mounts nice. Super crisp trigger break too.

Nice fit and finish. Lot of gun for the money. Like the wood.

For an online purchase was outstanding! Communication, shipping, FFL dealer all were very good. Would highly recommend purchasing through Buds. You never know, I do now, nothing but compliments.

Buds delivered me this gun in 3 days and in the first week I’ve put 350 rounds though it without a single hiccup. This shotgun is light and shoots beautifully. For the price this shotgun is an absolute steal. Couldn’t be happier with this purchase. 5 stars without question

Gun was in excellent condition when it arrived to my FFL for pickup. Shipping was quick and since this was a first for me to purchase a gun online, I was very pleased with the process.

I would characterize this as an inexpensive o/u, rather than a cheap gun. After 100 rounds I am very pleased.

Wow. What a great looking gun. Stiff action when new. Fact is, why pay thousands? If a lifetime supply of rabbit meat cost less than the gun, your really making a bad decision. This is a whole lot of gun for not much money and is a good decision. You will love it.

I have been a shooter all my life, have shot old single shot break opens with no padding, have shot old military rifles with steel butt plates.., that being said I love how light and handy this shotgun is BUT.., it kicks like a pissed off mule, and that is with 2 3/4" bird shot. Right out of the box with just the 1/2" pad on the butt I put 6 shells through it and now my shoulder has nice purple bruise. I have ordered recoil eliminators, hope they work or this one will find a new home.

I now have about 100 rounds shot through my new 555 Enhanced. I shot a 75 round sporting clay's event with it. It started out a little rocky but a few stations in I was getting use to the gun and finding the targets. I was very impressed with the gun and shot my best round at this course. I was using a Remington 870 before and shot it pretty good. I never had a double fire, the gun performed perfectly. My son tried out the gun and usually has a hard time hitting targets but was over 50% with this gun and loved it.
