The weird sights take a bit to get used to but the low bore axis is great and it's a natural shooter. Reliable and it's a Steyr.

This is a nice poly striker-fired pistol. I like the grip angle and the futuristic look. It is reliable and accurate. I had this one and the longer version. I sold both, not because they weren't great pistols. I just got more interested in all metal guns. I did prefer the Steyr to the Glocks I've owned, mainly because the Steyr has more interesting aesthetics. But, when it comes to plastic fantastics, my favorite is the CZ P10, because of the sweet trigger. The Steyr is definitely a quality piece. I think "the other Austrian" is worth a look. My only criticism is that this smaller version tended to eject casings straight up, dropping them on my noggin. This was exaggerated for me, being a southpaw. The full-size version didn't have this issue. This didn't influence my decision to sell. I just got bit by the 1911 bug, so most of my poly collection got moved along.

Compact but is deceptively heavier than expected-which I prefer. 1000 rounds later I’ve experienced no failure to fire or hiccups..I’am a brass case user as a rule , no comments to offer on steel case ammunition but I can verify that the chamber/feed ramp is polished . . The trigger is a joy and resets for rapid follow up shots and is pure joy… trijicon makes and aftermarket three dot tritium sight and alien gear makes a holster-mine is OWB … Found the trapezoidal sighting easy and a very unique, practically teaches the user to point naturally…Finally the S9 accepts 15 and 17 round magazines from is full size brothers!! Accuracy in the “effective range” for self defense I rate as good.

Overall great handgun.
Comes with 2 magazines that work for right-handed mag release setup only. Easy enough for me to work around even though I'm a lefty.
Pros:
-Minimal muzzle flip
-Good trigger
-Trapezoid sights are surprisingly easy to use
-Well-countoured grip
-Controls easy to reach
Cons:
-A tad nose heavy, similar to G26
-Grip is slippery, recommend grip tape or skateboard tape

The purchase process at Bud's is super. This was my first purchase. I especially like the list of local FFL's who would take delivery. The whole process took 5 business days. The pistol arrived in perfect condition. I will be a return customer.

This pistol is my carry pistol. Ergos are fantastic. Very accurate and have 500 rounds through it without issue.

One of the best shooting carry guns I own. Trapazoid sights are fantastic for old eye syndrome. Can't go wrong buying this, won't be sorry especially at this price point.

Absolutely amazing service from Buds. Order in the AM and received the Steyr L9 A1 the next day! Delighted with the Steyr. It was a gift for my wife and she really loves it. She is a crack shot with the pistol as well. All in all another great experience from Buds.

This was my second purchase from Bud's and both transactions went very smoothly. Customer service is excellent and I am really enjoying my Steyr S9-A1. It is very easy to keep on target and points very naturally for me. I like that the grip is long enough to get three fingers on it. This is a very comfortable handgun for me. My wife enjoys shooting it as well.

Originally purchased the Steyr M9-A1 in October. Was so impressed with the trigger and feel, turned around and purchased the S9-A1. Both shoot incredibly well, with very little muzzle rise. Trapezoid sights are not an issue, very easy to acquire. Slide is a bit thick, but very well made. Currently carry Walther PPS M2, but will carry the Steyr S9 as well. Holsters not as plentiful as other makes, but Steyr website does a good job directing to various holster outfits. No malfunction issues shooting either the S9 or M9 pistols. Not a super experienced shooter, but compared to HK P30, Walther PPQ, PPS M1, PPS M2, and Glock 17 & 26, this gun shoots better and only around $390 with the current Steyr rebate. Price dropped $38 from the time I purchased until receipt of firearm. Used the Norton shopping guarantee thru Bud's, and claim was approved quickly and check mailed out for the difference.

First of all, excellent service from BUDS. I received the gun the very next day; it traveled from Kentucky to a small town in Mountain Time Zone! No problems at all after several hundred rounds. Excellent trigger. Two 10 round magazines, but I wonder why they can't put 12 rounds in the same sized magazine. The trapezoidal sights are easy to acquire. If I can find the right holster, this may become my EDC. Very, very pleased.

I purchased my Steyr S9-A1 for CCW. It has a manufacture date of May 2017. I have 700 rounds through it with no FTE/FTF. Pros: Easy target acquisition with trapezoid sites, fantastic trigger, and great rapid fire accuracy with the low bore axis. Good bang for the buck. The Steyr S9-A1 is a very nice high quality pistol. Cons: Ejection can be erratic and tends to eject spent rounds straight up and back. The ergonomics are nice, but not as nice as my HK VP9SK

I recently purchased my first handgun from Bud’s Gun Shop a Steyr S9-A1 9mm. I am an avid follower of Hickok45 on YouTube, which is sponsored by Bud’s. The purchase price was well discounted bellow MSRP. After research it was the best price available at the time from a reputable firearms dealer. Having Bud’s withdraw the purchase funds directly from my checking account seemed an odd method of doing business at first thought, but the transfer of funds went smoothly and safely. I fully understand their reasoning in this method in order for their customers to obtain the lowest cash purchase price. From the time of actual purchase (funds transferred) to the product’s actual shipping took a but longer than usual due to Bud’s fractionalized two distinct seperate steps involved in the sale. Bud’s needs to improve on the speed of shipping the products out. Otherwise, I am totally satisfied at this time with my first purchase from Bud’s Gun Shop and fully expect to make future purchases from them in the near future. I am a Disabled Military Veteran and I am planning on purchasing another Steyr pistol from Bud’s during their outstanding 2017 Veteran’s Day Sale!

Great Gun! I've had no problems out of mine whatsoever. I love it! The trapezoidal sights are amazing!

Right out of the box the hand feel of this firearm is excellent. The low bore axis and the shape of the grip fill out my med-large hands just fine, and allow for a fairly natural pointing action when aiming. The sights are strange at first glance, but I like that they're different, they contribute to the iniquity of the Steyr's look and feel. The design is one of my favorite things about this firearm, it doesn't quite look like anything else out there. I've described it to friends as an "Austrian space pistol", because it's got the same "cool factor" as the P90 and other sci-fi looking firearms. It will certainly draw attention at the range, both due to its space gun aesthetic and due to it's relative rarity within the US shooting market. As for functional feel, the slide glides nicely with almost zero lubrication out of the box, and is fairly easy to cycle due to the relatively light recoil spring and the excellent slide serrations. The trigger is good but it isn't the best, and the feel of depressing the center tab is a bit strange at first coming off of using a S&W shield with its hinged trigger. The break is clean and the reset is short. The magazines are easy to load up to their 10 round maximum without too much effort, but they arrived coated in an anti-corrosion compound that is sticky; I'd recommend cleaning the magazines before handling them. The compound comes off with isopropyl alcohol easily, and should be easy to remove. On the cons side of things, holsters are fairly hard to source; There are a few out there made by aliengear and some other companies, but I can't speak for their quality. I personally make and use my own kydex holsters, so this isn't an issue for me, but it is worth noting. The other notable issue is that the grip, while comfortable, is lacking in texture, and I could easily see it being fairly slick with the introduction of sweat, rain, etc. Either invest in some talon grips (which apparently exist for this model) or pick up some GT5000 grip tape and DIY a custom grip tape solution. The magazine release is very close to the body, almost flush, which makes it quite a bit harder to actually use. The advantage here is that it's almost impossible to accidentally release the magazine, but it's a double edged sword, as it also makes it far more difficult to quickly reload without extensive practice. My only personal peeve with this firearm is that the "10" round magazines included have a 1/2" thick polymer section on the base in lieu of a traditional base plate. It seems strange to me that they would manufacture the magazines this way since I could see them holding at least 12 rounds if they were constructed using a longer metal portion and a traditional base plate. It seems that the purpose of the design is to intentionally restrict the magazines for what I assume is compliance reasons. The full sized (17rd) magazines for the L9-A1, C9-A1 and M9-A1 will all supposedly fit, so that is an option if you want to carry a larger backup magazine. Overall, it's an excellent looking and feeling subcompact pistol with some interesting features, an incredibly low bore axis and a cool factor like almost nothing else on the market. The biggest issues are the flush magazine release and the lack of mainstream accessory support. If you can deal with that it's certainly worth checking out.

Purchased the Steyr S9-A1 for concealment carry. Ran over 100 rounds without any issues. Love the sights and low recoil. I would definately recommend this pistol for anyone who wants a good firearm.

Great little 9. This often overlooked design is really a great gun. Low recoil due to low bore axis, excellent ergonomics, and great sights.c

The Steyr S9-A1 Subcompact pistol was ordered on Friday night and was delivered on Tuesday afternoon. It fires very much like the G43, but to me is a little more comfortable in the recoil. The trigger is a tad bit better than the G43 9 (i.e.,4-5 pounds with a quicker reset versus 5-6.5 pounds). An examination of the inside of the slide showed no discernable tooling marks at all, and close operating tolerances. The user's manual is very thorough and complete. All in all my opinion is that I got a very good price for a well-built handgun which I will keep for a long time, and carry on a regular basis.

Traded my Glock 26 toward this gun and the Steyr is definitely an upgrade. This gun is in between a G19 and G26. I can get a full grip on the Steyr, which I couldn't on the Glock. Very little felt recoil, trapezoidal sights just seem to drop right back on target. Took about two mags to get the hang of the sights but then I started shooting better than I did with my Glock (which I shot pretty well). Once I realized that the tip of the triangle points where the rounds will go I was able to be more precise than I am with my other handguns. Excellent trigger for a striker pistol. The reset is subtle, which may be a negative for some but it's not a problem for me. The grip angle is a little more severe than any gun I've shot before but it makes the gun point more intuitively. The fit and finish are excellent, especially given the gun is under $500. This gun just feels solid and the quality is evident internally and externally. The only downside I see to the gun is the limited aftermarket options. There are some holsters and sights out there but I hope more people realize what a great gun this is to remedy the limited aftermarket options. I liked my G26 a LOT but I don't regret for one second changing to the Steyr. Traded toward this pistol and got a fair price. As expected, Buds was great to work with.

This is a great little gun but it hasn't quite captured my heart. The sights become familiar very quickly even I've never shot anything similar. All the comments about the trigger are right on the mark. My only hesitation is about the outer contour which is a bit block like. For that reason I like a single stack pistol for concealed carry. However I have no problem giving this little Steyr 5 stars and I sure hope I'm never on the wrong end of someone carrying it.

Bought the S9-A1 to compliment my M9-A1, best ergos for me than any other. Shot great its first time out, as I expected. Trigger is one of the best and I love the trapezoidal sights. Great service from Bud's.

Comfortable to shoot and so far completely reliable - it spits brass right back at the shooter's face which might bother some people, but the sights and ergos are great and it seems to feed about any ammo I can find.

If Steyr would start marketing these pistols, they would be as big as the Glock name. These things would fly off the shelves. I own all types of guns, and I knew when I picked this up it was going to be an instant favorite. I took it to the range and put 150 rounds through it the day after I bought it. All I did was lightly oil the slide before I began. Not one problem of any kind with winchester white box and perfecta, both in 115 grain, and hornady critical defense. I usually use federal hst as my carry ammo, but I was out that day. It's very accurate, soft recoiling and has very little muzzle flip. I have fairly large hands but it is a comfortable 2 3/4 finger grip for me. The trigger is awesome! Once you take up the slack in the trigger, it's at the wall and breaks like glass. The reset is not that tactile, but it's short. I own a hk vp9, and that trigger is good but mine has some creep in it right before the break. I'll take this trigger over that one or any Glock. I think the sights are fantastic. Fast target acquisition and nice sight picture. If you buy this, the only regret you'll have is that you didn't pay attention in holster making class, because they are HARD to come by.

Just received this firearm from this site on Tuesday. Delivery was quick. What is better is this handgun! The sights are unbelievable and the recoil is not bad for the size of the gun! All in all...I am very happy with this purchase!
