How many rounds does it hold?

H&R website says the magazine capacity is 5. I am sure that is with 2 3/4" shells. So with 1 in the chamber, that would make 6. Probably only 4 of the 3" shells in the magazine.

Joseph, the H&R has a 5 round tube magazine and will hold 5 + 1 (6 rounds total) with a shell in the chamber. Don't forget too plug for hunting if required in your State. Cheers and stay safe!

Which would be better first (and probably only) shotgun this H&R (which I believe is a clearance model now) or this Maverick 88? https://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/43865 Its not for a kid, I'm over 50 but new to guns. I don't hunt, I would just like a shotgun for fun and possible home defense, Dont want to spend a lot.

Hi Stuart, I agree with Randy and Joel on the Maverick. However, If you don't hunt and want a fun/defense shotgun, I would recommend something with much better handling and shorter barrel. The majority of "Defense" Shotguns have 18.5 to 20" barrels. I agree with Randy P. on the Mossberg 500. Very simple to operate for a first time shotgun owner. I used this model in the military and really liked it. It’s a real workhorse.

I have 1 rifle and 4 handguns (2 from Bud's). No shotgun yet. The rifle and two of the handguns are .22LR, the other two handguns are .38 specials so I'm used to little recoil. I was thinking of a Maverick 88 in 12 gauge until I read up on recoil and saw a video that shows a 12 gauge can shoot through walls but a 20 is less likely.

Great choice. If you want less recoil the 20ga is the way to go. The 12ga has alot of recoil like any 12ga also for the money its a excellent choice since its a Rem 870 knockoff you're saving over $150

You will be surprised that the 20 will be slightly lower recoil than the 12 but nearly the same penetration with shot/buck shot loads. 20 gauge slugs may penetrate more due to higher sectional density. 12 or 20 you can use several available low recoil self-defense loads, I would recommend #4 Buckshot whichever you decide to get for the best combination of effectiveness and less penetration.

It is a good shotgun which you can use to do everything as far as 12ga or 20 ga they will both shoot through the same wall if the shells are the same IE 12g 1 oz #4 shot or 20 ga 1 oz #4 shot

Well I'm a senior citizen and I hunt deer in a shotgun only county here in Maryland. I own many 12 gauge shotguns but as I'm getting older I'm becoming more recoil sensitive so I picked up this inexpensive gun as an alternative to my other shotguns. Now I've only used it as a slug gun but I've harvested a deer every season with this gun since I purchased it. It shoots fine. Accurate for me at least out to 100 yards. Been a sweet shooter with virtually no recoil using 2 3/4 slugs.

Best. Little. 20ga. Budget. Shotgun. Ever. Seriously folks. I've busted a lot of clays with this little dude. It's solid. I've ran it's big brother 12ga through thousands of rounds of buckshot, slugs, bird loads, etc. with zero failures (except in the couple of case where I short stroked the action) and that's what lead me to buy this 20ga. No complaints. Solid. Double action bars. Tried and proven action. No regrets on this purchase.

Bought this shotgun knowing it was not top of the line, but functional as per reviews listed. Received it quickly as usual with Bud's and upon inspection at my ffl everything seemed to be fine. Upon getting home and cleaning it I discovered a very serious problem, When safety is engaged you can pull the trigger and it will fire. Very disappointed as I was planing to give gun to my grandson for Christmas. This is a China made copy of a Remington 870 pump shotgun built with a very dangerous fault and by a manufacture with no quality inspection evidently. I would not recommend buying this shotgun due to it being unsafe, If you have one check to see if you can pull the trigger with safety on.This is no fault of Bud's as I have purchased several guns from them with never any issues. I just felt I must post this issue for safety reasons for the benefit of any one owning one of these shotguns. .
