John, If a barrel on a firearm was marked ".223 only" that is what I would shoot. I would not shoot 5.56 Nato no matter what the description says. That's just me.

If it was chambered in 556 I would say yes to 223! But since it’s chambered in 223 I would not shoot 556 out of it unless the company says it’s okay. You can hurt yourself accidentally.

How much does it weigh and how bad is the kick ?

4-1/2 lbs. Recoil is not bad because it is a heavy gun I would put it around the recoil of my Blackhawk .357

James, with the weight of this gun, 4 1/2 lb, and the smaller bullet size you'll be shooting with a .223 (55 gr) this should be a fairly smooth shooting revolver. Even though the 223 is fast, the fact the bullet itself is so small - not even 50% larger than a 40 grain 22 LR bullet, this gun shold be 'tame' compared to many others.

James, the weight is 4.5 lbs and recoil is surprisingly mild due to the weight.

I owned a TC Contender about 30 years ago when they were still mostly straight-walled pistol case chambers. Back then the single-shot pistols were famous for tight lock-up, and massive strength, as well as the best accuracy possible from a pistol. Well, things haven't changed at all. This new model, the Pro-Hunter chambered in .223 Remington is just as well-built. The 15" barrel is tapered to hold down weight, yet the breech end is massively thick. The pistol requires firm pressure on the trigger-guard lever to unlock the action, and just as firm of a snap to close the action. While TC experts will probably find all sorts of issues and things they "need" to improve out the box, for all practical purposes one can take this thing out and immediately begin putting bullets on target out beyond 200 yards...with open sights. Mount an optic, and basically the only range limit is the shooter's ability and ego! I personally appreciate the polymer grip and fore end because it's built for real field conditions, as is the satin-matte, bead-blasted finish.
