Just got around to firing my rifle today for the first time. Hard to believe its been over two months since I received it! Shipping was Bud's Guns usual great service. It arrived at my FFL a week after ordering. Thank you Buds!
The rifle did not disappoint. I previously had and sold a 204 Ruger from another manufacturer, and have been itching to get another in this caliber The Savage 12 was worth the wait. I am a lefty, so a right bolt, left port is perfect for me. I put both handloads and commercial ammo downrange today. The commercial Hornady 32g indicated 4225 fps on the box; my average was 4171. I also shot 40g V-max handloads which ran just under 3600 fps...it seemed to prefer the 32's. At 100 yards my 5-shot groups with either ammo were all less than .75". I anticipate this number coming down as the barrel breaks in and I do some load tuning. I will load 39g Sierra Blitzkings and 32 V-max for my next outing. Over the course of shooting today the action got smoother (as expected). I had no problems from the first shot to the last - no ftf's or fte's. It did everything I expected.
