Buds was the only place I could find this ammo. Price was fair and delivery was good.

Have not patterned yet. I have patterned its bit brother, 3 inch 24 pellets of 1 Buck. Those grouped well, but recoil was extreme by any standards (for those who are honest about it). The 3 inch version were tough to test a box of 5!. I would rather shoot 200 7.5 target loads on trap/sporting clays than shoot one box of the 3 inch load. These have about 1/3 less recoil and are still plenty stout. These may be a better choice for most applications. If you must have the max, get the 3 inch load, I can live with a little less and one more in the pipe.

I used Buds when I bought my Mossberg 940, with 24 inch barrel. I really don't do any shotgun hunting, so I set my gun up to run these Winchesters as a home/ranch defense weapon. A reviewer above gives a much more informed write-up than I am able to. But to say, after shooting 2 boxes of these to sight-in and see the pattern that 16 pellets puts on a (dog, coyote, lion) sized target, I feel pretty confident that I'm going to be doing ok with 9+1 of these in the 940. Set yourself up in a good stance, they do kick.

Great ammo, patterns well out of my 18” 870.

Great all-purpose load for anything you would normally use buckshot for, including home defense. Be aware, these are 2-3/4" 1-1/2 Oz. "baby magnums", and have heavy recoil.

Good grouping at 20 yards, consistent cycling with Mossberg 930.

When you need extra pellets, without the extra power of 3" 00. Works for me.

For those needing a close range or medium range hard hitting buckshot the Winchester 16 pellet #1 Buck Super-X load is the way to go. If your looking for Golf Ball sized patterns at 25 yards or 50 yards this is not like Flight Control Buckshot although the current production Super-X #1 buck does have a single one piece plastic shot cup similar to those used in steel shot loads. Both the 2 3/4" and 3" inch Super-X #1 Buckshot use the same wad with the only difference being that the 2 3/4" inch has a small felt spacer under the buckshot and inside the bottom of the plastic shot cup. This set up is slightly different from the older version of this same load and it's big brother magnum 20 pellet variant. The older version used a 2 piece plastic shot cup and gas seal similar to the XX Magnum birds hot 1 1/2 oz loads. In my opinion the current production patterns wider then the older version but patterns are good enough at 25 yards when IC or Mod. Chokes are used and will keep 90% to 100% of the load on a human cut out target and within a 15" inch circle depending on gun and choke used. At closer ranges it's like any other load and patterns tight as one would think it would. Past 30 yards range the #1 for me was a wider pattern but still is able to keep 50% of the pellets on target out to about 35 yards using my 1100 Remington with 21" RemChoke barrel and Mod. Choke from Carlson's. My 870 with 21" inch vent rib RemChoke and Steel Full Choke installed will pattern really tight with this load out to 30 yards keeping all 16 pellets on target but the pellets do seem to hit on the outside edges of the target at the long ranges with only 25% of the load in the center or vital areas of the cut out, just depends on the shot. Current production #1 Super-X Buck pellets are .285 caliber which are undersized and do not seem to stack in layers of 4 pellets inside the shell's shot cup. There is buffer in this load. Pellets are Lead 3% Antimony mildly hard but softer then Federal's pellets. The older version of this load used a larger true for size caliber pellet #1 that measured .298 caliber and were in those days copper plated Lubaloy buckshot in the 20 and 24 pellet load. The 16 has always used Lead pellets. Those with weak arms and shoulders will not like the kick or recoil of this load, it's a thumper.
