  Ronald, I have this model rifle (as well as the Panther in 5.56mm model). The safety is more or less silent. You can "feel" it with you bare finger (no gloves) but otherwise does not make any noise. If you are worried about sound, make sure you charge the camber with a round (and put safety on of course) well before you reach the area where you intend to hunt. The sound of charging a round is relatively loud (at least to deer and alike) so it should be done well away from the hunting area. BTW, the DPMS is a good choice for an AR-10 type rifle. Lots of aftermarket customization products for it. You might also like the Diamondback AR-10 as well. Also an excellent, economical choice in the 7.62 category.

• Q: I know this is an 16" barrel, so my question is, will it fit an 7" front guard? Same as my 16" Windom Weaponry R16m4?

  Jerek - you can install pretty much whatever length hand guard you want, provided you replace the gas block with a low profile gas block, if you are installing a longer rail. And, Jerek - on a .308 rifle, a 1:10 twist rate barrel is pretty much what you need for any commercially available 308 bullet available. 308's are different than the smaller .223. I'm sure Michael was thinking of 5.56/.223 when he mentioned the 1:7 or 1:8 twist rate barrels.

  Jerek - This has a mil-spec buffer tube sir, and will accept mil-spec stocks. Very good rifle too - I got one right after they were released and it was a great firearm. Even better now ... and priced at just about half of what I had to pay back then.

• Q: Is this upper made from 7075 T6 or 6066 T6 aluminum?

  Michael, The upper receiver is milled from a 7029 T6 aircraft grade aluminum construction. The lower receiver, on the other hand, has been extruded from a 6061-T6 aluminum which is also hardy and durable. To boost the durability of both the upper and the lower, they feature a hard-coat anodized finish. This secures the receivers from scratch and corrosion together with other harsh conditions.

• Q: Is the upper considered low profile or high profile? I know dpms has made both so just curious what the oracle is?
