WOW! Amazing gun! great trigger, super accurate, and very manageable recoil. The new models no longer come with the hogue grip. I originally was gonna put one on but the smith and wesson grip is plenty comfortable! Glad I spent the extra to get the smith and wesson. its a head turner

Ordered a S&W 686 from Bud's. Service was excellent. Exactly what was promised. Would have been nice if the 686 had Hogue grips as indicated in the photo, but, can't complain too much as Bud's had a "disclaimer" on the photo indicating that it may not represent the ordered gun "exactly." A little surprised that the S&W does not come with Hogues and a cheaper revolver like, Ruger's GP 100, does. Over all, very pleased.

It's the best handgun I've ever owned or shot. I've put about 300 rounds through it now, indoors and outdoors, and it's exceeded my expectations in every way.

It's large but well-balanced, very accurate with its preferred ammunition, solidly built, with good sights and good grip ergonomics (despite the cheap rubber grips it comes with). Everything works with a smooth, authoritative 'click.' When you close the cylinder on 6 rounds, it feels like closing a bank vault.

I never cared much for Remington ammunition before, but that's what it seems to like best so far - in .357, the 125g Golden Sabers. In .38Spl, it likes the 148g wadcutters, which are very pleasant to shoot and more accurate than my .22LR bull barrel Buckmark. I've started casting my own wadcutters with Lyman molds and getting excellent results out of them, too.

I have a Taurus 66 to compare it to and it's not in the same league as the 686. Get the S&W. Worth every penny.

Very smooth transaction with Bud's, as well.

I ordered this revolver at about 1500 on Monday, 18 June, it arrived at my FFL (Champion Shooter's Supply in New Albany, OH) at about 1030 on Wednesday, 20 June. Excellent service all around from Bud's, UPS, and my FFL. The 686 no longer comes with the Hogue grips as seen in the picture. Go to Smith and Wesson's website to get a look at the new grip style. The revolver functioned perfectly. I am giving it a 4 star rating only because it arrived rather dirty and there were specks of what looked like red paint on it (I was able to scrape them off with my fingernail). When I am paying almost 700 bucks for a firearm I expect a little better.

I would consider the S&W 686 .357 Mag to be one of the best, right up there with the Colt Python.I've owned many other .357 mags in my life.,but I sold them and went back to owning a S&W.Very reliable and durable.I had a model 27 with thousands and thousands of rds shot through it and still was as accurate and reliable as the day I got it.In fact,my buddy likes it so much that he won't sell it back!
