Very happy with this gun. I owned one of the original CA Bulldogs, and the quality is much better on the new guns. Picture misleading, as this is NOT a Charter 2000. This caused some confusion with the purchase... Charter Arms folded, was reorganized as Charter 2000, then they went out of business due to a lawsuit, and now the company is once-again Charter Arms... Gun seems small for a .44, and the kick was quite manageable. My old Bulldog with the 2-1/4" barrel was much more violent and hard to shoot. Good gun, good experience. -Tony

I bought this puppy and went to the range. It began binding up after a box of ammo, so I sent it back to Charter. They fixed it, no charge, and now it's fine. Charter gives a lifetime warranty. Good for them!

That is the only con.

The pro's:

This snub nose is very light, but the recoil is easily manageable. The .44 cartridge is MUCH more powerful than a .38 Special. Something like 340 foot pounds of energy, versus about 220 in .38. And the bigger diameter .44 slug puts more energy into the target.

This snubbie is almost as small as Charter's .38. Maybe just a tiny bit bigger, but it's not real noticeable. I would certainly pick this one again, over a low-powered .38.

Very comfortable grips. Stainless, so it will hold up to every day carry. And the big barrel hole is as intimidating as a Colt .45!

Over all, this is the one to get, rather than any of the Charter .38's. I am very happy with it. Love to take it to the range and burn thru a box of hot ammo. I think you will, too. You will feel very safe and secure packing heat like this.

One final thought: you get what you pay for. If you pay a couple hundred more for a S&W revolver, you will see the quality. But for the money, this Charter Arms .44 is excellent. Probably more than most folks will ever need.

I've had the gun about a year and all I can say is its a great gun. I've put about 400
Rounds through it and never a problem. Great for concealing and a real powerhouse. Very accurate at 25 ft. Would recommend for protection.

Purchase of gun from Buds and transfer to me from FFL all flawless and fast. I took this gun to the range as soon as I could after purchase and I have to say it might be my favorite handgun. I put over 400 rounds through it ( wearing gloves for powder residue not for recoil) and it shoots about 8 inches low and 3 or 4 inches left from around 20 yards using a rest and single action. I think that is pretty good for fixed sights and the intended purpose of this gun. This is my first Charter Arms handgun and it will not be my last. Forgot to mention- I was shooting hand loads at near max recommended charge with 240 GR SWCL and recoil was not what I would call punishing at all. I would have put more rounds through the gun had I had more along. If you are in the market for a well made and reasonably priced 44 Special 5 shooter I think you would be more than pleased with this gun. I love mine.

Good value for a personal defense revolver. .44 special round is more effective than a .38 shot from a 2" S&W with much less recoil and allows for a quicker more accurate follow up shot. The Bulldog is still small enough and light weight enough for concealed carry. I have purchased 3 to date and give as gifts to my formerly unarmed loved ones for their first handgun.
