The internet consensus on the types of high velocity ammo to pick for reliability seems like good info for me so far, but I did not find much accuracy data online. So I tested some of the recommended brands and here are the results in my gun. All testing at 25 yards indoors, elbows rested using recent long rifle ammunition.
CCI Blazer 40 grain 4.38" average 5 shot groups, 1/2" under point of aim (2 targets)
CCI Mini MAG 40 grain 2.22" average 5 shot groups 1/2" under point of aim (2 targets)
CCI Mini MAG 36 grain HP 3.25" 10 shot group 2" above point of aim (1 target)
CCI Velocitor 40 grain HP 4.25" 10 shot group 2" above point of aim (1 target)
Remington Golden Bullet 36 grain HP (bulk pack) 2.67" average 5 shot groups 1/2" under point of aim (3 targets)
Winchester M22 bulk scattered too much for me - not measured.
Anything that groups under 2.5" at 25 yards in a carry-size autoloader makes me happy, and the CCI 40 grain Mini MAGs are there. I was surprised that the Remington Golden Bullets got close to the mark and with a sandbag rest would likely meet that accuracy standard. I read somewhere that Remington recently stepped up the Golden Bullet quality, so I'll probably shoot a lot of those too. Reliability was 100% as long as I didn't let my fat right thumb ride the slide. No misfires.
I like the windage adjustment and it only took a few right clicks to center my groups. Trigger was decent with 4.5 pounds single action and 8.5 pounds double action using a Timney pull gauge. Fit and finish were good and I like the orange dot sights on the nickel model.
If my Bersa is a representative sample, I think the Thunder 22 is a darn fine "knockaround rimfire" for the money and Skeeter would probably agree.
