Walther Arms P99 AS Final Edition 9mm Black Slide/OD Green Frame 15+1 - 4" Barrel, 15+1 Rounds

Despite being over two decades old, the P99 still feels exceptionally modern. Great ergonomics and grip, mechanical safety features, and accuracy. Recoil is very soft and reliability is excellent. All of the metal parts are built to close tolerances and the action is very smooth. This is a great deal at Buds to get the gun, a hard case, two magazines, and some other interesting accessories like a speed loader and challenge coin. Trigger might be heavy/long for some but this is predominantly a double action handgun with a de-cocker and loaded chamber indicator. Great for shooters who want accuracy AND safety without a hair trigger. As a lefty, the ambidextrous mag release is much appreciated.

I've loved Walther since my first one and only other I own (PPK/S in .380) and with them announcing the retirement of this iconic handgun last year, I knew I'd be getting one of these to complete my James Bond set of Walther models. I was worried I'd waited too long after not finding any at my usual retailer that I've bought most of my guns from because they have almost everything your heart desires, but they were sold out never to restock again. I was elated to see that Buds, who I've not bought from before but I know they are a well-known and reputable online retailer, still had them for sale. After receiving my P99 at my local FFL, I tested it out at the range as soon as I could. All I can say is, "Wow." This is by far one of the funnest, smoothest pistols I've ever shot. I've only ever owned and shot the PPK so I wasn't sure what to expect when shooting this for the first time other than what I heard secondhand from others. If you're reading my review, then chances are it's too late and you can't get this model anymore, at least not new. But I would argue it's more than worth it for you to hunt down a P99 used (if you can find someone actually willing to sell theirs which I can't imagine will be many unless they are desperate to feed their family). If you want to stick with something you can get new but that's as close to the P99 as you can get, look into the PPQ which is essentially Walther's spiritual successor to the P99.

Grab one while you have a chance. I was debating it for a while but really glad I did. It came with a really nice case and the interchangeable backstrap sizes, make it great for people with any size hands. The gun feels great weight wise and grip wise. Shooting it was great, accurate and reliable, the anti stress trigger was awesome. Glad I got one while they were still available.

Well, let's see. It's a Walther. So, it's got that going for it. Just kidding. But it's actually a valid comment. And you can see and feel the quality in this pistol. The lines are beautiful. The fit and finish are flawless. This is a handsome pistol. The size and weight are just about right for midsize concealment. It weighs about the same as a S&W Glock clone I have. The grip provides ample room for the hand. It might feel a bit large for some women, but I don't want to discourage a good old college try. It does come with three interchangeable backstraps. According to my perception, the angle of the grip is just shy of that of a Luger. I didn't actually measure them, but it does feel quite nice in the hand. I was attracted to the DA/SA trigger. I am not disappointed. The P99 has numerous innovations not found in other pistols. They're all good save maybe one. The jury is still out on the ambidextrous magazine release. It's very different than most of us are used to. However, I think like most things, small motor muscle memory will make it work in short order. I have yet to take the pistol to the range, so that's about all I can say for now.
