This weapon is very accurate out to 200 yds. For those making comparisons to ARs and claiming the Mini 14 is inferior in accuracy, get over yourselves. I was a 6 time rifle expert with my M-16 in the Marines, so I know the AR is very accurate. But for what I bought this for (SHTF scenario) this rifle is PERFECT! Although the AR/M-16 platform is very easy to breakdown and clean and the Mini 14 is more difficult, I still give the nod to the Mini in a SHTF situation. Why? You MUST keep the ARs clean to cycle properly. On the other hand, the Mini 14 is a beast of burden. I have, on many occasions, put well over 300 rounds thru before cleaning. So far the most I have run through between cleanings is 750ish, and I still had no FTF/FTEs. Conversely my Colt AR record is 240 rnds before FTF/FTEs.
The Mini 14 is an excellent battle rifle. If you want to argue accuracy at distances beyond 200 yds the AR is the better choice. But I would also argue that if I want to reach out past 200, I will reach for my Savage 111 in 338 Lapua.
PS. The factory 20 round mags are the way to go. 30s are a tad finicky without adjusting spring tension. Stay away from after market junk.

I have yet to take her to a range. I gave it a good once over and everything seemed in place. The adjustable stock is a VERY nice touch if you're tall and burly, it's actually got 5 positions, not standard 4. The folding feature is good for a backpacking weapon (if you odn't mind the weight), and there are swivel stud options out the wazoo. Seriously, about every other surface seems to have somewhere to mount a sling or securing strap.

The rocking magazine takes a little getting used to, but it loads .223 as easily as an AR mag does. Same deal, just push down and they click right in.

The sights...oh the sights. The ATI model's top rail SERIOUSLY limits your peripheral vision when looking down the sights. I suggest colorizing that front blade also, for contrast.

The grip feels great, with one caveat: The polymer that your thumb webbing hits was a little sharp on mine, so it scratched my shooting hand up good. Will have to file that down a bit. Trigger pull is crisp, feels about 4-5 pounds, pretty standard.

The safety is excellent too! M1 style, located on the left side of the trigger guard, easy access and positive retention.

When you work that bolt, though, REALLY gotta man handle it. Same with getting a mag out. Smack that release and let it fall (or rock it out the way it came if you're not into dropping mags).

Overall, the craftsmanship on the rifle and the stock appear to be excellent, and sturdy. Sure, it's ugly as hell. But it seems to be a squared away firearm.

I will post a follow up after some range time with her.
