This is the only semiautomatic 308 that is still effective in a defensive role if you've lost all your magazines but one due to the top off loading feature and 20 round mag. The black stock is lighter and slimmer than the wood stock. The rifle weighs about as much as a Mossberg 590..not too heavy imo. I'm 5'9 160 and the length of pull with the rubber but pad is too long, I installed the metal butt plate and it's perfect. Also the storage holes are still underneath the rubber pad so you can still store a cleaning kit it will just be harder to access. The rifle is LOUD AF! NEEDS A SUPPRESSOR TO BE ENJOYABLE AT ALL however recoil is on ar15 levelsl of soft. Rifle will not accept a full magazine. If you have a 10 rounder load 9. If you have a 20 rounder load 19 or 18. The rifle is a good length, again about as long as a Mossberg 590. The charging handle wiggles a little and the ample tolerances yield AK like reliability. At 100 yards accuracy is 1.5 moa IN MY HANDS. I've found that removing the scout mount gives 1 moa accuracy.

I’ve admired the M1A for many years, but have never had the gall to make the move and buy one. Luckily Buds had the three models in store for a period of time and I had the chance to get a feel for the different models. The scout immediately stood out! Pros: The gun itself is built like a tank with comfortable weight which is easy to manage when in the field or at the range. The M1A doesn’t have any issues when feeding ammunition into the chamber or ejecting spent cartridges. Didn’t have to adjust the sights much at all out of the bag when I hit the range. Comes with a good case and all the instructions one could ever want. Cons: Comes with 1 - 10 round magazine. (Note: Proprietary magazines aren’t cheap)

This is an American classic. I purchased this firearm as a secondary to my AR15. After shooting I actually prefer this rifle over most of my others as it is fun and accurate with open sights. It is well made and can handle any ammo with ease, brass, lacquer cased steel no problem.

Bud’s had the best price I could find on this M1A Scout. Got the gun quick and easy. As far as the gun goes it was ok. I was disappointed with it from an accuracy standpoint. I was expecting more from it. Guess it being an 18” semi-auto battle rifle without all the match rifle upgrades it is what it is. Wouldn’t ever spend $1,400 on another one though.
