This shotgun is stout and handles well. It's heavy enough to take a lot of the sting out of recoil on long days at the range. No problems at all and it'll shoot any brand of shells you feed it as long as they are the correct shells. (Gotta throw the disclaimer in these days!!)

I always go back to this particular gun. I don't know what there is about it. I guess I like the old fashioned wood furniture and the parkerized finish. Also the new choke is supposed to be better. Then, at 61 years of age, my eyes aren't what they were and it tales a couple of seconds to focus on a rifle sight. I like the bead sight on a shotgun because it is so quick to access. Disregard the fact that it only holds 4 rounds in the tube. As my shooting instructor used to say, if you can't do it with 4 shotgun rounds, then you probably can't do it. Then, the wood stock makes for a pretty good improvised club if you need it to. Last, I just like the looks of wood and steel. In closing, you will never go wrong with this gun. It will serve you more than well. With a little bit of decent treatment, you'll be handing this gun down to one of your grandkids. It is well worth the investment.

This is my 2nd Police 870 from Buds. This time I didn't want the extended magazine, to make barrel changing easier. I have already bought a 30" barrel from Buds, and an extended choke...making a very fine hunting and trap gun. Btw, the factory recoil pad was hard rubber, not Rem supercell, so I rectified that right away. You can't have too many beautiful, tough Rem 870 Police models! Thank you Buds! I wish we could post images, she's a beauty.

What a stunningly beautiful shotgun, and 130 firearms later, I buy this on a whim of reminiscing about days long gone, when the fit and finish of men and women, who built firearms with pride, care, love, and a desire to pass something along could be considered a familial legacy for many generations. Well, here is one of those guns. It is beautiful, with wood that belongs on a Weatherby, the line at Remington who built this gun should be so proud, God fearing Americans, and nothing short of that I am, so honored to have this 18 Inch standard 870 Police Magnum with a collection of the finest custom firearms in the world. I don't get it, it's not supposed to happen, I received the Willie Wonka Chocolate Factory Golden Ticket in a Walnut Police Magnum Shotgun, and simply say thank you to Remington, my friends at Buds, and offer that at Remington, there remains a level of pride on that LE and Military line that is everything good about American Manufacturing and pride in craftsmanship.

Classic R870P model. Slick out of the box, shoots any buck slug or bird I've tried. Runs like a top watch. No QC issues of note. They say the 870Ps are still good guns even with the current Remington QC drama. I agree, this is a great shotgun built to last . The walnut stock I got was handsome as all get out with amazing figure. The 4-shot tube handles wonderfully and is enough to stop most threats for sure. Still great to see an American company making a tough as nails riot gun. The only thing it needs is a 1960s style leather or web sling to have a retro police look. If you plan to go with an extension, don't buy this model and just get the one with the Remington +2 extension which is excellent. For most defensive duties though 4+1 will be enough. Many police departments still use these simple 870 riot guns to this day no add ons and usually plastic stocks. They still get the job done!!

I've been buying Remington 870s since the sixties and I love the gun. This model has an exceptional action, smooth as glass, the fit of the stock however was a disappointment. The wood stuck up about 3/16" above the receiver on the top side, but fit every place else. This aside it's a great gun.
