The clips work fine but aren't needed unless your ammo has a crimp where bullet meets brass. The 9mm headspaces on the cylinder bore that decreases at brass length so the extractor groove is in sight with normal uncrimped loads. It is quicker to load and unload without these clips than to mess with loading them, unloading them, etc. You will need them with crimped loads because the bullet drops a bit past the above mentioned cylinder bore stop and firing pin won't hit hard enough. These aren't the toughest clips around and if you have some rds sticking some after firing it doesn't take much to bend them by being rough with cylinder extractor. Better to carry a medium size screwdriver to help the sticking cartridges out by pushing/tapping from front of cylinder. Bottom line if you plan on shooting crimped loads you need them. If you just shoot uncrimped loads don't bother.
