Very Pleased with this purchase. Functions and shoots well. I had an issue with the front sight hood falling off but after contacting Marlin they were very responsive and sent a replacement hood promptly. Buds was great as expected.

I'm disappointed. I put 100 rounds through it when I first bought it during the pandemic but haven't taken it back to the range until this week. Now, the lever locks open every 50 rounds or so. Neither I nor the range master could unjam the rifle by pushing the stuck round back into the tube. With only 200 rounds through it, I'm sending it to a gunsmith. If he can fix it, it will be a great rifle. If not, it's mostly useless.

One of the first three weapons that I purchased. I really enjoy this at the shooting ranges as it is very smooth in its operation.

I had to return the gun to Marlin first time because the front sight was loose and screws broken off in the barrel. Then sent back second time because the new screws holding front sight were too long and were sticking into the barrel bore. That’s a pretty big blunder. After that all is fine and I love the rifle. Hopefully Ruger will do a better job with Marlin.

I purchased this rifle for my son and it was of better fit and finish than another one I purchased at the same time he loves it and has taken several whitetail deer with it. I hope that the new Marlin company will install the larger loop lever as standard. The aftermarket ones are awfully pricey.

Beautiful rifle , but the side gate spring was very stiff so I kept getting my finger pinched.. Also , slower loading than a tube, so I traded it for a Henry.

I love this gun. It's one of my favorites. I've purchased three guns from Buds and every experience was superb. Highly recommended.

Solid firearm, shoots well and puts a niiiice hole in whatever is on the receiving end since it's a 44. Gun shoots well once you get the sight on and with very little recoil the gun is great for some range fun. Only issues are loading rounds and working the action slowly. The rims catch on the reciever when loading so you really have to jam them in there. And if youre being to "nice" to the gun she wont eject properly. As a hunting gun it wont matter but on the range it can get annoying having to jam every round in.
All in all if youre looking for a lever gun to fill that cowboy itch this is not a bad choice. Just treat the gun like a $700 gun not a $2000 gun and you'll be fine. This tool was made to take a beating so dont be afraid to rough it up.
Good gun. Treat it like a tool not an artifact. Run the action hard and she'll do whatever you ask. Worth the price.

A:Griffin, a good scope match up is the Bushnell Engage. It has clear glass edge to edge and if a shorter length to accommodate a Lever rifle. : https://www.budsgunshop.com/product_info.php/products_id/104257/bushnell+ren41240dw+engage+riflescope+4-12x+40mm+obj+29-10+ft+%40+100+yds+fov+1%22+tube+black+finish+deploy+moa ---------------------------- https://www.budsgunshop.com/product_info.php/products_id/711013787/4-hole+tactical+picatinny+ring+medium+matte+black+1+inch --------------------------- https://www.amazon.com/Marlin-1894-Picatinny-Scope-Mount/dp/B004VILI4YSee 2 more answers | -

A:Hubert, it's a great rifle for deer hunting, I would recommend using Buffalo Bore, Garrett Ammo, or Underwood ammo for shots over 50-60 yards.See 5 more answers |
Bud's carries Buffalo Bore ammo in .44 Magnum at a good price. Just go for the heavy bullet weights, over 240 grains, for the longer range. -

A:This particular rifle has some stock fit-up gaps between the butt-stock and the receiver. I loosened the screw a little, then bounced the butt on the floor, then tightened-up the screw. That took care of 75% of the gap. Also, on this particular unit, the front sight has had to be replaced with a lower one. With the rear sight adjusted fully up, it still shot low at 25 yards....at 75 or 100 it would not be on paper. Also, when they pressed the front sight in, they just positioned it flush with the right side of the ramp, but did not center it. That's just poor attention to detail. However, any factory rifle should be able to be brought to zero with the sights it came with. If I were not a very experienced shooter, I would have been frustrated that it could not be zeroed. The rifle functions well enough, but is not as smooth as my 1895. I am sure that with use, it will get better. I would rather Remington/Marlin put more effort in to fit and finish than have the stock checkering. The trigger is very good for a lever action. I like it. Despite the little quirks, I am not sorry I bought the rifle. I enjoy figuring out how to make a new rifle really shoot well. (From the reviews)See 1 more answer | -

A:Hi Steven, unfortunately we would need an actual Serial Number to be able to specify date of manufacture Steven. I don't think Buds would give that out without purchase.See 1 more answer | -

A:The cowboy rifle has and octagon barrel, period correct sights, no checkering and is chambered for 44 magnum. The standard 1894 will shoot 44mag and 44 spl, has a round barrel, checkering and folding rear sight.
