This thing is a beast!! I am in love with this hand cannon. Trigger action is perfect and I was amazed at how accurate this thing is considering the monster caliber that it is. The build quality is amazing and the gel insert grip is a real nice touch. You can actually shoot this thing for quite a while without any pain to your hands or wrists. I put a hundred rounds through it and it felt great. I'ts also like shooting a .22 when you put 45 colt through it. Would definitely recommend this beauty.

Excellent purchase from Bud's This is my fourth handgun purchased from Bud's, and it certainly won't be my last. Great service and easy, fast, and free shipping makes Bud's my goto FFL. The Ruger Alaskan arrived in perfect condition, so the first thing I did was swab the chambers and barrel, then check the cylinder gap. It was nice and small at 0.0015”. The timing is spot on and the trigger pull was smooth. The single action pull was light and crisp, and double action was heavier but very smooth. At the range it functioned perfectly. All firing pin strikes were centered on the primer, and all the cases extracted easily. I first shot a cylinder of regular .454 Casull, not super hot but it was still pretty rowdy, then a box of .45 Colt +p, and finished with some standard .45 Colt Buffalo Bore 225 grain full wadcutters. This is a fantastic handgun that is so much fun to shoot.

Buds was great as usual. The revolver is well built but I learned about “Crimp Jump”. Because of the high recoil when shooting hot .454 loads (Hornady 300g XTP in my case); the bullet actually becomes dislodged from the case and moves forward. This caused my cylinder to lock up (will not rotate) after 3 rounds as the bullet tip sticks out beyond the cylinder and cannot get past the forcing cone. Oddly enough, I did not have this issue with Underwood 325g. 45LC are no problem. So now begins the expensive experiment of finding ammo. I may try Buffalo Bore as their CEO’s videos are very good and acknowledge Crimp Jump. In retrospect; if I knew about this, I might have gone with the SW 460 or the Ruger 480 which has a longer cylinder. Nothing wrong with this revolver but why would any ammo manufacture produce ammo that can’t handle the recoil. A word of advice: When you have Crimp Jump lock up, don’t just beat the cylinder with your fist to get it out to clear the weapon like I did. There is a procedure to rotate the cylinder backwards after lock-up which is much healthier for the revolver. Thanks…

Very Beautiful Very well made revolver. Very accurate. With full power 454 Casull loads it's a fire breathing monster. I was surprised but with the hogue mono tamer grip the recoil was substantial but very manageable. Definitely a man's revolver. Not for the faint of heart if you are recoil sensitive. I received my ruger alaskan and I love it.I love heavy recoiling guns ,this recoils a little ,but is very easy to handle . I use it for bears on fly fishing and camping trips out west.The gun is a beautiful piece of work, if you can handle a 44 mag, you can shoot this.Its very well put together.

Powerhouse of a wheel gun! Accurate for a short barrel. Kick is hard but manageable. Shoots .45 long Colt...feels like. 22 mag. Buds is great as always.

A real fine revolver. Nice workmanship, I have wanted a pistol in 454 casull ever since it came out in production firearms. Not the least disappointed in the Ruger redhawk Alaskan. Yes it does kick, but then it’s just showing it’s power, and yes if your a hand loader you can make some lower power practice loads. As for the recoil, ( when I taught my sons to shoot at 10 years old, I had them use my 357 magnum with full charge hunting loads, “shocked look, then a huge ear to ear grin” This cartridge will bring down any animal in the world and more managable than the s&w500 or the 460. 100% satisfied with my purchase. Buds gun gave great service and shipped it to my local FFL in a very timely manner.
