I was looking to replace my old, synthetic stock "beginner" hunting rifle with a more "serious" and "classic" addition to the collection...one that would make my Grandfather proud, and that I can pass down to my own son one day. I looked at all the "usual suspects" from Remington, Winchester, etc. but was drawn to the idea of the Savage American Classic for several reasons - classic good looks and styling, great reviews online, nostalgia factor, and the fact that this rifle is still made in the USA. Boy, was I not disappointed! This rifle is put together BEAUTIFULLY! Metal-to-wood attachments are top-notch, with no "proud" wood that I could appreciate. Wood quality itself is very nice, with a beautiful satin finish. Workmanship is top quality, and the rifle has a very "solid" feel to it, despite being surprisingly light in weight. Won't be afraid to take this on a long trek through the woods. And the accuracy - holy cow! After taking it to the range to sight in my new scope, I was shooting sub-MOA groups at 100 yards within three shots. I was able to repeat MOA or better groups when using several different types of ammo...this thing is truly a tack driver! No real surprise, though, since Savage has long been known for producing a quality product at a modest price. Ask a lot of old timers, and they'll tell you that a Savage is (and always has been) the most accurate "off the shelf" rifle out there. Overall, I couldn't be happier with this purchase. Bud's was (as always) phenomenal, and I am elated with this top-quality, AMERICAN MADE, classic!
