I'd bought these Crimson Trace LG-405 laser grips after checking on what S&W puts on their various J Frames. I like the LG-305 length, but noticed that S&W puts these LG-405 grips on their magnum models as opposed to the longer gripped LG-305, which they put pair instead with their 38 special J Frames. That was the deciding factor for me. I'd originally put the basic harder synthetic compact LG-105 grips on a J Frame 38 special a few years back and those were fine for that weapon. But for the magnum models, the wrap around rubber LG-405's have an added air pocket to cushion the back strap of the frame. Magnum rounds in J Frames are challenging enough, so the added cushioning should help eliminate some of the recoil trauma to the hands. Bud's once again came through with the lowest online price including reasonable shipping charges, even adding a couple more items into the order.
