I have to say this was fun right out of the box, however mine was shipped with a different forened which looks to be a Mossberg 500 Synthetic Forearm, .410 Bore, not pictured here which in my opinion is a pleasant surprise. Currently sitting beside M-LOK forend/stock combo waiting to be installed. This is an HD gun that doubles as a clay shooter, the bead sight hasn't let me down.

The 500 just feels more robust that the Maverick 88 and is heavier. They say they are the same gun, but I disagree. Love the heat shield already installed on this 500 and the parkerized finish is very nice. I’m just partial to these short barrel shotguns as they are lighter and easier to maneuver. All in all a great defensive shotgun from Mossberg and glad to see Buds has them back in stock after 2 years of gun buying chaos.

If you're looking to the replace the foreend, be aware that this did not include an action slide tube and instead the bars were pinned to the existing foreend.

Buds had price-matched it for $196 and offered layaway on it, so I put this Mossberg on layaway without hesitation (wasn’t currently in my gun budget). Paid it off before 30 days and they shipped it the day I made my final payment and my FFL received it in 2 days. The new action is pretty stiff, the finish isn’t the best and the pistol grip is not user friendly for lefties for reaching the pump release. It’s the 3rd Mossberg pump in my families collection though, they’re cheap but tough as nails and reliable. There’s no other shotgun (in this price range) that I’d trust my life with more than a Mossberg 500.

I bought this and another shotgun from buds as my “dependable beater” so that I wouldn’t have to worry about scratches out in the field. It was less then spectacular on clays but that’s to be expected on a short barrel chokeless barrel. This gun is aimed more at home defense which was my realistic expectation for this. I took off the stock and installed the included pistol grip. For close quarters up to 40 yards this is perfect with 00 buck or slugs. For 200 you can’t beat a reliable 500.

Typical Mossberg! not the prettiest thing in the safe but it'll go bang every time!!! Heat shield is very cool!
