Very good shooting gun I have never had a failure to fire as of yet.

I received my High Standard 1911-A1 last week and I've been cleaning and inspecting it before firing. The pistol is a nice, low budget addition to my safe. I have 6 1911's and this one was purchased as a bare bones, USGI style parkerized example. The finish is green park on the frame and black/grey park on the slide, barrel and accessory pieces. The grips are some kind of yellow-blonde Asian hardwood. if they were stained a dark walnut they would be OK. As they are delivered, they are quite unattractive. i replaced mine with USGI brown plastic grips, which fit perfectly and look correct on this style 1911. Trigger pull was surprisingly light and the slide/frame and barrel/bushing fit was also excellent. the insides are coated in thick oil from the factory, so i detail stripped the pistol and cleaned everything to make sure there was no grit or manufacturing debris inside. The interior parts are well made. I'm told there are some MIM parts, but I couldn't identify any. Some of the parts are a little rough and stained, but the contact surfaces were filed smooth and I am happy with the assembly. Someone who knew what to do assembled my pistol. The barrel bushing required a wrench to remove and the whole slide assembly was very tight (good thing). The checkering on the recoil spring plug was poorly executed. The factory 8 round mag seems OK, and drops freely when the release is pressed. I use Metalform 7 round mags, and they fit and eject with ease. The feed ramp is polished and the dimensions/gap between frame and barrel are correct. i have not fired it yet, but I have cycled it with FMJ and JHP rounds and it works well with both when manually cycled. We'll see how it does under fire later. For the price this cannot be beat. If you want a USGI type 1911, get this and some new grips.

Great 1911, looks just like its WWI ancestor. The finish is a nice dark flawless parkerizing. The wood grips are also flawless. The one I received was made in the Philippines just like the RIA version. I'm a WWII re-enactor and I can say I am very impressed by this gun. It looks way better in person than in the picture on this ad.

Nice gun for the price! Very tight slide to frame fit, and overall workmanship on the gun seems to be well done. Trigger is better than I expected. Fired 100 rounds without any FTF or FTE. I would recommend this handgun to anyone looking for an inexpensive 1911. Buds service was great as usual, with 2 day delivery after my last layaway check cleared.

Ordered the gun Monday morning, picked it up at my FFL's place Tuesday evening, I'm not joking. The fastest shipping I've ever seen, thanks Bud's! Now, onto the gun review: First off, for those of you who don't know, this gun is made by the same people who make the RIA 1911's (Armscor in the Phillipines), this 1911 is virtually identical to the RIA except that it has a smaller rollmark (always a good thing), a better finish and better grips out of the box. For $25 more I figured it was worth it for me to go with the HS over the RIA, mainly because I wanted a deep black finish (the RIA's tend to be a little more greyed), I was pleasantly surprised to find that I made the right decision on this part. The grips, well...they're garbage, I'm not even sure if they're actually wood, but I expected this, I had already ordered some nice double-diamond cocobolo grips to replace them anyway. Same thing goes for the 8round ACT mag that comes with the gun, again I expected this, and had already bought some government-standard Colt mags to replace. Beyond that, this is GREAT gun, you have to realize that to save on cost, the grips and mag are going to be crap, I can live with that...the real gem is in the quality of the steel used (I heard from a gunsmith that Armscor uses old railroad-tie steel), the fit and the function. Do a search on RIA or HS 1911's, you'll find that a lot of people swear by them, even over their Springfield or Kimbers. I finally had a chance to get this out to the range yesterday and put 50rnds of Remington FMJ through without an issue. Accuracy was spot on, but the trigger is going to take some breaking in, it's a bit heavy but I'm going to give it another 200rnds or so to loosen up (this is common with just about all 1911's). I have a feeling that by the time I get 500rnds down the pipe this will be the best shooting pistol in my collection. In conclusion, Armscor has produced a very faithful, quality rendition of the classic military M1911-A1, even my grandfather who is a WWII vet was impressed when I showed it to him. Bud's Service was phenomenal and I couldn't be happier with my purchase.

Don't let the price fool you! This is a fine pistol and since getting it 3 days ago I've already sent around 250 rounds down range with no issues. It is very simple 1911 and that is what I was looking for. The only thing I had no idea about is that grip safety. It will go next week once I get the replacement from Midway USA. Original just digs in in your hand and makes it uncomfortable to shoot without gloves. Other than that no failures of any kind. No issues with the sight, at 7-15yds group is 1-2" and at 25yds group never exceeded 4" (that was mostly me, arm got tired) and all this right out of the box! C'mon - get one for yourself, you know you want it!
