I just ordered the Mossberg & Sons tactical shotgun, pictured above. It is ominous looking and everything I was hoping for,? I’ve never owned a shotgun or bought one. But I feel the need now to have one available in the house for those times when you never know when!? I haven’t got the shells for it yet, so I haven’t shot it to be able to tell you how it shoots!“ Hopefully this week I can do that. BudsGunshop was extremely patient with me having put the gun on layaway to purchase. The best way to go if you’re on a fixed income. I have not had the opportunity to fire this weapon since immediately upon receipt and after removing it from its box, the trigger mechanism pin fell to the floor. It was easy to insert it back into place, however, it would not stay in there, falling out once again within minutes. (After the fact, I read a review that indicated this problem is not uncommon to the 500 model.) In addition, the safety was extremely stiff to move on an off. The movement did not improve even after more than 100 cycles of on and off. Consequently, it became necessary to return the weapon to Mossberg. According to Mossberg it will take 6 to 8 weeks for the resolution and return. The weapon is beautifully balanced with the hand grip and the action seems to be very smooth. Someday, I even hope to fire the weapon as I have been told it handles very well.

Purchased from Budsgunshop.com, received at my local dealer in the exact time estimated. Found the gun to be well packed and in 100% great condition and was even nicer than the ad pic, much better. So far I absolutely love this 500 as I had one for many years and have kicked my self for trading it. Haven’t had the chance to range test it yet but, if it’s anything like my last one, this one won’t be traded or sold. Can’t wait to try it out and will update afterward. Removed pistol grip and installed the stock on it and plan on it being one of my home defense go to’s. And had a great experience with Buds Gun Shop!

the gold standard for home defence and sure to perform under any condition, NOT for small shooters with small hands, this thing packs a wallop which is what you need in a defence scenario but not much fun to run a box of shells through with the pistol grip on!

What can I say, you cant go wrong with this (or any) Mossberg 500. The location of the safety and the action release feels better than the 870's location of these. The finish on this Mossberg is very nice and a matte blue, so there is no reflection. It comes with both the pistol grip, which i immediately took off, and a butt stock. You could use the pistol grip with a Mossberg, but with the location of the safety, it makes it slightly awkward to use it. I ordered the shotgun and it was ready for in store pick up within 2 days. I did have trouble taking off the pistol grip, but if you just put a little "oomph" into it using an allen wrench. After that I had a problem with the magazine tube, where i could not load any shells. I took it into Buds to have them look at it. It seems that it was just stuck and once they fixed it they suggested putting some graphite on it. The next day i decided to take it to the range and put 300 shells through it, various sized shells and loads. It preformed flawlessly with out any FTE or any other problems. If you are looking for a shotgun, there is no need to look any further.

Excellent initial quality but please note I’ve not had the opportunity to take this to the range to test function and cannot attest to its reliability. I’d like to give updates on my experience with this shotgun but this site won’t facilitate it. The selling points on this shotgun were, in my home defense application, the extended magazine tube and the versatility of being able to utilize either 2 ¾” or 3” shells. This Mossberg was an outstanding deal with the heat shield and stock included.
