I have recently purchased a S&W model 642 Pro Series revolver. I have owned a number of S&W firearms and all have proven to be perfect. This new addition is no exception. The cylinder is tight and aligned perfectly. This model is cut for moon clips which is a nice feature. Mine was accurate out of the box and is easily concealable. This is the worst Quality control I’ve ever seen on a new firearm. The forcing cone is so jagged that I cut my finger on it. The screws are stripped and there are scratches all over the gun and parts where the finish is missing. Smith and Wesson should be ashamed of themselves. I would not recommend this gun to anyone. Buy a Ruger instead.

The ONLY reason I purchased this S&W is because it does NOT have an internal lock. In fact, it is one of the only models that does not have the "Hillary Hole." Otherwise, a solid shooter with great point of aim for fixed sites. It eats P rounds like candy Barely noticeable trigger creep and a good 5-6 lbs double action trigger. Perfect for pocket carry. All steel is a plus and moon clips release with gravity with no sticking. Although my revolver collection is Ruger & Colt centric now, I am always on the lookout for the original and best - S&W - without the lock. Sadly, that limits me to the expensive pre-lock models because even the modern S&W "Classics" have the hole.

Surprised that the frame would be that small, however talking with a retired police officer, he mentioned that it was easy to carry in a pocket. He said he wouldn't go anywhere without it--a great EDC. I believe it is head and shoulders better than a double-barrel, single-action Derringer. Also, it is rated +P.

Prompt delivery (when in stock). Revolver functions like it should. Moon clips are very handy but they don't work with all brands of brass. Factory grips are ok but with my large hands and .38 +P ammo they are not the best. This revolver has been my EDC since I got it. C.B.
