When Mossberg set out to create a dedicated shotgun for youngsters and small-statured shooters we didn’t just slap a smaller stock on our legendary 500® and call it good. Instead, our engineers made everything smaller and created what is arguably the world’s smallest fully-functional pump-action shotgun. Available in either 20 gauge or .410 bore, the Mini features an 18 1/2 “ vent-rib barrel with dual-bead sights. Parents don’t have to worry about their young shooter growing out of this gun too quick, the adjustable classic stock can be adjusted from 10 1/2” to 11 1/2” length of pull so the Mini can grow with your child. This adjustability also helps provide a proper fit for young shooters and allowing for a more safe and enjoyable shooting experience. Weighing in at 5 pounds and only 34 ¾’ long, the 510 Mini proves that big things do come in small packages!

I bought this for my 9yo son. I like that it fits him well, that it can grow with him (the adult stock is cheap), and of course I like the price.
Buyers may need to manage their expectations of what their child can do (or will be willing to do) though. My son is very recoil averse.
I filled the hollow stock with some lead shot in a baggie, adding just over a pound of weight. This helped a lot. The Winchester "low recoil low noise" shells aren't too bad in this setup. Now that the gun is over 6lbs he has trouble pointing it skyward though. So he shoots from a rest and we limit ourselves to stationary objects. This is probably not what Dad was hoping for, but I'm ok with that for a year or two. He will still be able to use this gun years later when he can more easily lift it (a major plus for this purchase).

Great fit for smaller youth. Kids knock down clays with ease. Don't hesitate if you're looking for a youth shotgun. It's a Mossberg so there's not much you can complain about. 2 thumbs up for Buds as usual.

Don't be fooled by the size of this weapon. It really packs a punch. Loaded it with heavy dove load, 8 oz, 2-1/2" shells and it kicks twice as hard as my 12 gauge loaded with buck shot. That's no joke. "junior" shot gun my big ol' butt. If you let your kid shoot this, you're an idiot. Don't get me wrong. Great shot gun. Good range for an 18.5" barrel. Comes with three different chokes for pattern adjustment. Comes with stock add on pieces so you can customize your length of pull. But if you have a problem with recoil, go with a heavier weapon. Or buy some shoulder pads, cause you're gonna need 'em.
