  Frank, Yes this semi-auto shotgun is legal in NY but not in NJ.. If you hit the link of NJ not NY regs on James G's answer and look under shotgun you will see this:--------The following are prohibited:
  ✘ A semi-automatic shotgun with either a magazine capacity exceeding six rounds, a
  folding stock or a pistol grip.
  But in New York here are the shotgun regulations:-----------------The following are prohibited:
  ✘ Semi-automatic shotguns that have one or more of the following features:
  1. Folding / telescoping stock
  2. Thumbhole stock
  3. Fore-grip
  4. Fixed magazine over
  10 rounds
  5. Ability to accept a
  detachable magazine

• Q: Mossberg's wed site shows this shotgun with fixed or screw in choke models. Can either one be ordered?

  Mossberg only offers the tactical model with a 20 inch fixed cylinder bore so you have 3 choices to get it with screw in chokes 1 buy it with the fixed barrel the order a new barrel from Mossberg 2 send the barrel off and have screw in chokes installed (Briley) and 3 get one like this Turkey model and look for a tactical stock forearm https://www.budsgunshop.com/product_info.php/products_id/5373/mossberg+sa20+20+ga+3%22+pt+fo+tky+moo

• Q: Brownell's website for same model # says 5+1 capacity. which is correct?

  Ray, this model has a 4rd Tube Magazine. The SA-20’s magazine capacity unplugged is 5 rounds, meaning 4 in the magazine tube and 1 in the chamber.
