Great gun for the price.

I've had this rifle/scope combo for 10 yrs and shot 1000 rounds. Accuracy was 'so-so' until I epoxy bedded the wood stock. Now I easily shot 3/4 moa. If you are having trouble with accuracy take a look at the stock inletting. Mine was terrible until I expoxied it. Now - wow! You guys that are paying $1600 for a 1 moa guarantee (no scope included) take note. I'm loving it.

I bought this to start hunting varmints in Idaho. Sighted it in with 55gr FMJ bullets and then went hunting with 55gr ballistic tipped bullets. Missed two coyotes at 115 yards! Back to the range and found that the 55gr ballistic tip bullets hit 1 1/2 inches high and 7 inches left of the point of aim! After trying to learn to reload and work up accurate loads I changed out the barrel to a 26 inch McGowan 8 twist. I also changed out the trigger guard and bottom plate for metal and mounted the action in a Boyds stock that I epoxy and pillar bedded the action into. I also bought a shim kit to take up slop in the AccuTrigger housing and installed a Savage target trigger spring. The trigger is now set to 10 oz. I also replaced the scope with a Burris XTR ii. Really the only thing original is the action and AccuTrigger at this point. I feel like the accuracy issues I had were due to the light sporter barrel on the rifle. The orginal stock was nice enough it just did not fit me due to a short length of pull. You know "one size fits many". I don't remember much about the Nikon scope.

I'm very pleased with this rifle. If you haven't bought a "budget" Savage rifle package in the last 20 years, you will be pleasantly surprised. The trigger is awesome, and the included Nikon scope would set you back $150 if purchased separately. We've all come to expect a good value on an accurate rifle from Savage. However, what really surprised and impressed me was the wood and the metal finish. This is one handsome rifle! Granted, the stock and barrel doesn't have the deep, glossy shine that old-school rifles from 30+ years ago had, but it looks just as good as a modern Remington 700 Classic. I've read varying accounts of whether the wood is walnut or walnut-stained birch, but it really doesn't matter because most rifles these days have a satin finish anyways. The only thing I didn't care for was the stock scope rings. They are entirely adequate, but I have always used Burris rings, so I bought a set of low Zee rings (420083). They match the action and scope perfectly and have the added advantage of getting this particular Nikon scope as close to the bore as possible.

This is a high quality rifle. The Accutrigger is excellent, snaps easily and cleanly. The scope has high clarity and it's easy to stay on target. I highly recommend this rifle.

Altho there was not much of a description, This rifle is awsome. Took a chance on this one and am very happy with purchase. Not sure the scope was bore sighted, but will zero in soon or later. Shot 50 rounds with no problem at all. Will say, shipping was extremely slow , but if your not in a hurry, its worth the wait in the long run..... Nice rifle !!!
