I originally reviewed the Ruger in .308 cal based on recommendations in a MeatEater website review. This is a fantastic, low cost, starter hunting rifle. I had a small issue with mounting the sight and the clearance of the bolt handle (my fault, aftermarket scope and big hands) but my first time out I took a good-sized doe (125 yds) and a wild hog (closer). The Ruger American Standard is just that; great finish, easy to clean, smooth bolt operation, tight MOI straight out of the box. I cannot say enough about Buds; thier selection is fantastic and the pricing is hard to beat. Shipping was quick and I had no issues with packaging. A special shout out for military/law enforcement support!

An outstanding choice for an affordable, accurate, low cost rifle. Great trigger, great finish, mechanically sound. The only small drawback is the stock. Light and plasticky sounding. Little foam alleviates that. Can’t go wrong. Thanks buds! You are the best!

This rifle is average for a gun at this price point. Trigger won't adjust down as low as Ruger advertises. Barrel contour is rather thin. I have the same rifle in 22-250 and it has the same barrel thickness. With the 308 bore the barrel walls are on the thin side causing the barrel to heat up quickly. Three shot groups are decent but if you try for five shot groups shooting quickly, groups start to open up. Three shot groups average 1 1/4 inch at a hundred yards with handloads. Tooling marks are visible on the barrel. Finish is evenly applied on the barrel and receiver. Bolt was rather stiff and gritty at first, but is starting to smooth out. Rifle is o.k., but I don't think that I buy it again. Dealing with Bud's was great as usual.
