Front sight was loose. Fit/finish are poor. I replace the stock with an after market laminated and it looks cool and shoots great. Note. would not get it too shoot very well with solid copper bullets. Barrel may be too short.

I wanted this rifle for a long time. Bud's had reduced the price to such a level that I jumped and put it on a 90 day layaway. I paid it off. Buds shipped it on 10/24, my dealer received it on 10/28, I picked it up on 10/31. The rifle was in perfect in condition. This rifle exceeds your expectations, especially at Buds prices. Some complain about the stock, I have no problems with it. This is my 5th Savage bolt action rifle and I love the quality of these guns. I am excited to shoot it. This one will make an excellent all around rifle for anything I plan to hunt in North America, with the right ammo. By the way, it pays to track what you want to buy on Buds in all categories. I paid $371 for this rifle when it was in their "Clearance Firearms" category. Thank Buds for being the best,

Rear sight was loose and fell off once I opened the plastic bag. Rifle shoots great, finish is nice, trigger is descent, stock is OK, for the price it's a great purchase!

Transaction with Bud's was great! I have not fired the rifle yet, but I expect no problems. After reading the reviews I expected a terrible stock. I do not think it is that bad. Again, I will know more once I fire it.

Great value. With 250 grain handloads will shoot 3/8" to 1/2" consistently at 100 yards with 4x optic. Have shot four wild boar with it and it really does the trick. Stock is workable although it appears cheap, replaced with Hogue overmold for $115. Front and rear sight not exactly on centerline - this can be tweaked but was the only real disappointment. Also front sight came loose and unfortunately you must remove the blade to tighten the base. I'd recommend locktite everything before you spend range time sighting it in with the irons. Heavy barrel great. It has produced 1/2" groups at 200 yards (although I don't claim to do it everytime). I have no idea how effective a suppressor would be on this caliber. Seems a good match with Leupold Hog Hunter scope and Warne low quick-detach rings. Overall very much a recommend, a sub sub MOA rifle for under $450.

the savage Hog Hunter in 338 win mag is the first gun I have purchased from Buds but it will not be the last thats for sure the whole process was a very satisfying experience. And I plan to take a big old trouble making bore this weekend with it. thanks Bud's.
