Hi, I dont recommend this, birdshot in cap and ball revolver don't creat good gas seal and you will loose a lot of power. If overpenetration is a huge concern, then birdshot is the least penetrating option. That being said, if your birdshot has hard time going through thin drywall, it will also have hard time penetrating clothing, humans' skin, tissue, bones, and organs. I personally don't believe cap and ball are good for self-defense, a large flash and finicky operation is not ideal in life and death situation. I would rather get a modern revolver, semi-auto, or shotgun instead of a cap and ball gun. Pietta for is a good colts replica and Uberti is for Remingtons. If you large hands, then you might like the Pietta better as the Uberti grip is small (small and same dimension as the original). Uberti is the closest to the original gun, while Pietta is beefier.
12 GA shotgun best long gun. Hand gun with 410 bird shot like Judge.
John, the Pietta for sure but the Uberti is a close 2nd. That said, a simple 20 inch or less barrel shotgun loaded with #4 buckshot is optimal. --- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rhZf_x8Esms&t=261s ----------- https://www.budsgunshop.com/product_info.php/products_id/415013470/tristar+cobra+sp+force+pump+12ga%2f185+pistol+grip+5%2b1?trk_msg=CFPR4RKKM9445EH3KI10819JDG&trk_contact=Q7CC1D7B5GM02HAEE5DGAG423C&trk_sid=9O18T667324R26LC7EU23HEECS&utm_source=listrak&utm_medium=email&utm_term=TriStar+Cobra+SP+Force+Pump+12GA+18.5%26quot%3b+5%2b1&utm_campaign=BGSWS090220 --------------- https://www.budsgunshop.com/product_info.php/products_id/415013469/tristar+cobra+sp+tac+pump+12ga%2f185+synthetic+5%2b1?trk_msg=CFPR4RKKM9445EH3KI10819JDG&trk_contact=Q7CC1D7B5GM02HAEE5DGAG423C&trk_sid=9O18T667324R26LC7EU23HEECS&utm_source=listrak&utm_medium=email&utm_term=TriStar+Cobra+SP+Tactical+Pump+12GA+18.5%26quot%3b+5%2b1&utm_campaign=BGSWS090220
I don't own a shotgun, I feel I'm way more accurate and capable of defending myself with my AR15, especially from gangs of looters, with the higher rate of fire, way higher magazine capacity, increased range, and accuracy i don't think there's a better weapon available for home deffense then an AR15. Some will say "but overpenatration, your responsible for every round you fire" this is true, but the idea that a shotgun won't overpenatrate is ridiculous. With an AR you are putting the round exactly where you want it, and not just pulling the trigger and hoping the spread on pattern doesn't hit somewhere you don't want it too. Plus there are some really good home deffense loads for the AR (soft tip and hollow point both) that reduce the risk of overpenatration and can stop a threat very quickly "Federal LE Tactical 223 Rem 55 Grain SP", "Speer Gold Dot 223 Rem 55 Grain Gold Dot Soft Point" and "Federal Premium Barnes TSX, .223 Remington, Triple-Shock X HP, 55 grain" are all amazing s
