A: Hi Debra, The recoil on this shotgun really depends on the type of ammunition you use (Birdshot, buckshot, etc) however, it still will be relatively strong if you going to use home defense ammunition. Another issue is the length of the shotgun, this particular gun features 28 inches barrel which can be too long for tight maneuver in-home defense situation (This particular gun is mainly for hunting). If you want home defense shotgun and worry about recoil, I recommend looking at 20 gauge or even 16 gauge shotgun with a barrel length between 18.5 to 21 inches. These would provide you with compact, lightweight, low recoil gun that would be good for home defense. If you want to stick with 12 gauge (this will provide you with most options and I recommend this the most) try to look for reducing recoil ammunition. There is a huge market for low recoil ammo for 12 ga and they are easy to find and relatively cheap. Cheers.

A: Ramon, yes you can shoot slugs. It comes with a modified choke tube, which you can shoot slugs through, but I would recommend installing an improved cylinder choke tube for slugs. You want to use foster (or rifled) type slugs as this is a smoothbore barrel.
