Bought two of the 686+ for the wife and myself. She prefers the revolver to a semi-auto and .38s are "fun" to shoot. Anything that works to get her on the range and practicing is fine by me. I highly recommend this firearm, just wish there was an option to buy a model without the internal lock as you can with certain other Smiths.

Don’t expect it to look like the photos. Showed up with heavy brushed finish, swirls galore, and looking pretty rough.

Love this gun! It's a keeper. Easy to handle (especially with .380 P+), and not uncomfortable with .357 Magnums. Comfortable for EDC in my Falco IWB.

Was told it would be new but the trigger is well worn and discolored, amongst other stuff that points to this gun being used, well used.

The firearm arrived in perfect condition even the the sights were accurate. It arrived before estimated delivery date. The gun is nice looking and fun, it packs some power! But not too Much too handle the recoil. I’m keeping it for life.

A:Rodger, the old 686's had square butts, the newer ones have rounded butts. They changed from square butt to round butt in the mid 1990's. The question was from 2018, obviously no one did their homework before answering. Have a great day!See 1 more answer | -

A:Kelly, All the newer Smith & Wesson revolvers, and those with the on-board lock are all running MIM triggers and hammers. The last case hardened triggers and hammers ended in 1997.See 2 more answers | -

A:I would say square butt simply because all the round butt S&W revolvers I've seen or handled over the years have a different grip shape at the bottom, being more rounded.See 5 more answers |
Other than that, the only I could recommend is calling S&W and asking.
