Now this one is quickly becoming my favorite lever action rifle. It is smooth as silk and is surprisingly accurate making it a handy, quick handling close quaters hunting rifle. Once again Buds transaction was effortless and the processing was extremley quick. Buds also has a very comprehensive inventory.

This thing's a little beast. The action is quite smooth and light, certainly won't beat your knuckles up. The Skinner sight works well: the smaller peep is quite fine, while the larger aperture lets in enough light to continue shooting after dusk. The post it sits on does seem a bit fragile, but I haven't had any issues. Only downside to the sight is there's nowhere to store the peep when using the larger aperture. Now for the 'bad': Even though the overall finish is very nice for being kind of the 'budget' Henry, the receiver does have a few burrs under the glossy finish that escaped someone's notice. The gold color fill in the lettering on the barrel is a bit sloppy, to the point that the 'H' in Henry looks more like a 'K'. Also a few very small blemishes in the bluing along the barrel (she's still a looker). Oddly, I can get the stated 16 round of LR ammunition stuffed into the magazine, but with short I can only get 20 instead of the stated 21. Either way, this little rifle is addicting. Now for the absolute worst: I dinged the beautiful stock already; hold back the tears.

Bought this for squirrel/snowshoe hare hunting. I think it'll be superbly suited for the task; nice balance, light weight, quick. Love the octagonal barrel. Action is unbelievably smooth, and the trigger is crisp and intuitive. First thing, I stripped it down, cleaned it, and installed sling mounts. Then, on to what I had been looking forward to---sighting it in and getting to know the Skinner sight (the reason I bought this over Henry's other rimfire models). Here I ran into a problem; at the sort of range I expect to hunt small game (25 yards or less, usually . . . thick Maine woods, folks) my POI was at least 4" high. I went to adjust the rear aperture down, only to find it was already as low as it could go. I hesitate to fault Henry for this as I don't, after all, know the range at which they anticipated the rifle being zeroed. Certainly further out than the shots I typically take with open sights on small game!
This seems like a problem others have run into with the Small Game Rifle, if you scan the forums. My solution was to order a taller, Patridge front sight from Skinner. Granted, I'll be in a better position to comment on the rifle's performance once I get the new front sight installed and dialed in, though I will say, the first few rounds through it cycled perfectly and I expect more of the same.
Overall high marks, but the front sight height is a not-insignificant issue if you ask me. Kinda conflicts with this rifle's philosophy of use. Your mileage might vary, of course. But if you're considering purchasing this rifle, consider the possibility that you might need to spend some time tinkering with it, or if it's your preference, inquiring with Henry about a fix.

When I opened the rifle for the first time there was a small blemish in the finish above the ejection port. I wasn't worried about it though, as I am rough on my guns and use them. Its gonna gonna scratches and scuffs. My main concern is the feeding issue. It runs CCI .22 shorts beautifully. CCI shots shells run but you have to baby the action. The only other ammunition that I've run through it is a Winchester bulk pack, and the bullets when I am chambering a new round, the nose points up too high and jams, not everythime but enough to upset me. I still need to try a different variety of ammunition to see if its a rifle problem or just the ammunition. Although I've always heard bulk packs are unreliable and inconsistent, so hopefully its just that. Other than that the rifle is beautiful, feels great, and shoots straight.

Super nice rifle. Those skinner sights are very nice. Handles all rounds with no issue. Perfect winter rabbit gun out west here.
Shipping from Buds was very slow. This took a few weeks. Even thought I paid with e-check it still was a week after it cleared my account that they shipped.
It got here in perfect shape but not speedy.

Bud's service was, as usual, exceptional.
On the rifle itself: beautiful fit and finish, the walnut quality and bluing were something I'd last seen on '70s- '80s Marlins.
Wouldn't feed any kind of ammo right out of the box, action was terrible.
Three weeks back at Henry- where the replace the entire bolt and carrier- and it was the smoothest lever action, ever.
Except, on this model, they apparently haven't figured out the math on rear peep sights and factory front sights. Front sight, a .50, is too low and they don't have anything higher for this model. Got a .60 from Skinner and had to file it down to about a .55.
NOW, it's a great little .22. Recommend it, If you don't mind a lot of screwing around to get it right.

Very nice gun. Smooth and accurate right out of the box. Quality was exactly what I expected. Can't go wrong with a Henry. Buds was excellent as always. Shipped fast and no issues. Highly recommended.

Bought this Henry 22 Lever Action because I like the Skinner Sights and they were factory installed. I have Skinner sights on several different rifles that I use in training my grandchildren because I believe they are easier to learn on. Wood was perfect and octagon barrel was blued nicely. Lever action was so smooth like my other Henry and accuracy was dead on out of box. Always great service from Bud's

I bought this rifle from Buds and was very pleased with the entire process. This Henry is really a very nicely made weapon with excellent fit and finish and the action really is very smooth just like so many other reviews that I've read and seen about it have said. This gun is hard to beat as for value especially at the price paid at Buds. I'm very satisfied with the Henry and Buds Gunshop.
