Is this .22lr caliber Henry Mares Leg legal in Illinois?

Id double check that with a local ffl, as these are actually classified as pistols and are banned in a lot of places. Based on the requirements buds shows for your state i dont see any banned features but there was a lenghty discussion about whether these were legal in CA and many on here said they were fine, and it turned out they are not legal in CA they are banned in NY state as well

This isn't much of a question, but Mare's Legs are not California legal. I tried buying one from here. The FFL said they can't transfer these types of guns, per California law. I called several FFL's and they all said pretty much the same thing. I have requested to budsgunshop to remove the Mare's Leg from their California Aprroved section. Did anyone have this issue?

Hi Rudy, You're correct. Almost everything is illegal here in Ca.

How is this CA legal?

Nothing is restrictive on the rifle. -- All rimfire caliber rifles with magazine capacity of 10 rounds or fewer (e.g.: .22 LR, 17HMR, etc.) are permitted, excluding rifles with tubular magazines in lever-action firearms, which do not have magazine restrictions. Rimfire caliber rifles are not considered “assault weapons” and can have features that centerfire rifles cannot.--- Rimfire with a capacity of more than 10 can be purchased by LE with proper LE Credentials on file.--- Rifles of any caliber with tubular magazines (e.g. lever action) may have a capacity of more than 10 rounds (Cal. Penal Code S.16740).--- Springfield M1As will be legal if “CA” or “AA” is indicated in the model number (these models will have a muzzle brake instead of a flash hider).--- Stripped AR receivers are permitted, barring inclusion on Appendices A, B, or C (see "Rifle Flowchart" link at top of page). Give someone else the best answer but contact the local FFL holder to see if he will accept and transfer it with no issues

no its not The mares leg is classified as a Pistol and is not on the CA DOJ approved list it is also not listed on Buds compliant guns as either a rifle or pistol https://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/index.php/cPath/2084_1153/Firearms/California+Compliant I would double check with a FFL holder in CA to be sure

I bought the Mares Leg from Bud’s over the phone. It was processed immediately and shipped to my FFL dealer and I received it in 2 days. Great service!! I will be buying from Bud’s in the future.

This is a well-built gun and really fun to take along. Extremely accurate at 9 yards. The lever action is very smooth and sights are easy to read. Recommend for recreation and even shooting with your kids.

The most fun I have had at the range in a while. Great for plinking but I wouldn't mind it as a bug out bag backup for squirrel and rabbit hunting either. 22 short fires very quiet and accurate in this.

I love this rifle. I have always loved lever action guns. This rifle has had about 2000 rounds shot through it with no issues. I seldom go to a gun range because I live in the country. But when I do, shooters come up to me and ask to check it out. Of course I let them shoot it and it’s an instant hit. It’s accurate and very reliable. Bud’s is fast with shipping and always has with my other gun purchases. I just wish Bud’s would come to Texas and build some stores!!

My first Henry ha ha fun for plinking and unless you are Josh Randall plinking is bout all i can see it being good for. Rifle /pistol is of amazing quality as you would expect from Henry. Only ran a couple hundred through it and if there were a bounty on dog food cans i could afford another one. Buds was everything i had heard they were. Far exceeded my expectations. Love the weapon and highly recommend Buds

I purchased the Henry Mare's leg for my son for his birthday. I got a regular Henry .22LR for my older son a few years ago, and it was wonderful. My younger son is small and struggled against the weight and length to hold a sight picture with his brother's rifle. The Mare's leg was the perfect answer. He put about 100 rounds through it last weekend. It is beautiful, accurate and the action is like butter. You feel like you are holding an heirloom-quality rifle. My son could handle it comfortably from loading to firing and cleaning. I contacted Henry about breaking in the barrel (which is not necessary, I was told). They responded promptly. They were knowledgeable and friendly. I got the impression that they cared about their customers and were proud of their products. I own Marlins, S&W, Savage, Mossbergs and all kinds of stuff that I really enjoy, but Henry's are special. My family will definitely buy more Henry's.
