Here's a follow-up range report. I ran another 200 rounds through and no issues. Did try some reloads and it had a couple jams. Overall for what you pay it is a great gun for the collection. If I had a choice to pick up an XDM for the same price I would. Again you get what you pay for and with the rebate its a great deal.

After visiting the range and firing 200 rounds, I am very pleased with my purchase of the SW9VE. It is a simple, easy-to-use firearm that functions very effectively. The accuracy was fantastic, and recoil was very minimal. No misfeeds, no misfires... Just smooth shooting.

About the trigger: Apparently a lot of people find the trigger to be "hard" to use. I think that is an absurd statement. I can accept that for users of other guns the trigger will be hard to get used to, but by no means is it "hard to pull." ... And this is coming from a guy with very little upper body strength. So don't let those reviews stop you from considering this weapon... At the very least visit your local gunshop and take a look at it for yourself. You may not prefer the longer trigger pull, but rest assured you wont be screaming in agony trying to pull the trigger as some reviewers would have you believe.

Cleaning: The weapon is very easy to disassemble (owner's manuel gives good instructions), and a simple gun cleaning kit will do the job. Again, no experience necessary... All you need is the ability to follow some simple directions and you'll be fine.

Ammo: With a magazine capacity of 16 rounds (+1) you can't go wrong. This allows for more shooting and less reloading. And for home defense, so long as you're not taking on the mafia, 16 rounds should be more than enough.

Lastly, the price: Amazing! This is a quality weapon that's fit for the poor man's budget. If you're really into guns or want to compete in target shooting competitions, then sure... Get a higher quality gun. But for the average Joe who has home defense and recreational shooting in mind, look no further.

My experience with Bud's was great, this was my first on-line gun purchase. Very easy, shipped to my local indoor range. The SW9VE was great right out of the box. I was aware of the long trigger from all the reviews here, so it was no surprise. It does take a little to get used to it, but once you do, it is a great gun. Can't beat the price (I got mine for $299 - less the $50 rebate from S&W!). My local shop asked what I paid for it and said they could not have even come close. Thanks,

Here's a follow-up range report. I ran another 500 rounds of JHP 124 grain, 115 FMJ and 147 JHP thru my sigma. Approx 100 rounds of the JHP were reloads, 50 124 and 50 147. I had NO FTE, FTF, or FTL from any of my ammo. The trigger is smooth, and was right of of the box. The weapons performed flawlessly. My sigma is stock. Sometimes when you mess around doing home gunsmithing you can really do more harm then good. From all the forums I have read, cutting down the outer of the double trigger springs is NOT a recommended mod. It can cause all types of problems.

I shot very tight groups, 3 inches, at 15 feet. This gun is very accurate, so maybe the accuracy problems the home gunsmith experience was a problem with the shooter not the weapon.

This was my first experience purchasing from Buds and it was a good one. I love my Sigma. Yes the trigger pull is tough but easy to over come with a little practice. I have put over 500 rounds through the gun without a single issue. I would be ware of people who do self gunsmithing that doesn't work and then writes negatively about the performance of this gun. Its a great value and fun gun to shoot at an affordable price. I would recommend to anyone.

Not a gun you are going to enjoy. I bought the SW9VE 9mm because I wanted a gun to keep in a vehicle, was anxious to do the well documented trigger mods and because I wanted to shoot inexpensive ammo. Out of the box I was disappointed. The shiny black plastic looks crappy. When compared to my Springfield XD, the XD just looks like a better gun with fewer imperfections from the mold and deeper grip features.

Pulling the trigger for the first time - wow. This is harder than any gun I've ever used including revolvers. Anyone who said this trigger isn't too hard was not being honest. I really find it difficult to believe that "law enforcement" requested this trigger for safety reasons. Actually, I'd be amazed if any law enforcement officer used a $300 gun as their main carry weapon, but that is just my opinion. Of course, I was anxious to do the trigger mods. Potential buyers should note that there are claims that S&W will improve trigger pull for you for free under warranty.

Taking the gun apart, I cut down the outer of the two tandem springs inside the handle. I did not remove the pigtail spring in the handle. I ordered the Wolff 3.5 lb replacement striker spring and took out the factory one. Spent time polishing the internal metal and plastic parts that make contact in the handle as you pull the trigger. Shame on S&W for not smoothing out that metal piece which is actually roughest where it makes contact. Seriously. I put a very small amount of oil on all contact surfaces before replacing the parts/springs. Giving credit where credit is due, the slide appears to be made better than the rest of the gun. Reassembled everything and have a tolerable but still very long trigger pull. I will likely try polishing pieces again to make it a bit smoother.

Off to the range. 250 rounds of UMC FMJ ammo. Over 15 failure to loads and one stovepipe. Fortunately there were zero failure to fires with the new striker spring. Make sure you reassemble the striker correctly. The jury is still out on the failure to load. Maybe uncoated lead or hollow point will load better. I think I only went through one or two 15 round mags where I didn't have a FTL. Unacceptable. On accuracy, I've never done worse at the range. The long trigger pull is problematic and the 3 dot sites just don't seem as good as others I've used and I'm not sure why.

So now I have a gun that I wouldn't feel comfortable using for personal protection. Assuming I get my rebate I'm into the gun for $285 Including FFL transfer and the new spring. Even if I resolve the FTL issue I'd be concerned that the accuracy of the weapon would only make it useful for up to a few yards. I don't see myself enjoying this weapon at the range either. I do realize that this is not a $500 gun, but even so, it is still below average. If it had been $500 it would have just been a bad gun. I would recommend spending a bit more on a better gun. I think there is something fundamentally wrong with the trigger design in the Sigma series. You can only make it so good and it will still be way below what you get with slightly more expensive pistols.

I should mention that the purchase experience with Bud's was great. I mailed a check. They waited 5 days as advertised and promptly mailed the weapon via 2 day shipping to my FFL holder who was already in their database. Very easy.

I now own both the 9mm and 40S&W Sigma pistols. They are both the same dimension and so will fit in the same holster. I like the feel of the 9mm because it feels slightly lighter when fully loaded when compared to the 40S&W.

The fit and finish is great; not what you would expect for a low-price firearm. When you draw it and hold it, there is absolutley no rattle or play from either the magazine, the slide, or anywhere else. The DAO trigger is a nice safety feature that is not hard to use. I hear many gun enthusiasts that complain if it takes more than 3 pounds to pull the trigger. As long as you sight your target first and do not hesistate to pull, the trigger works flawlessly.

This pistol is not choosy at all about ammunition. It can handle Winchester, Wolf, Remington, Prvi Partizan; Atlanta Arms (reloads), and self loads using different brand powders. The pistol will get dirty pretty quick, and even after the first magazine is finished the top and sides of the slide will get coated in powder. Takedown is simple; no tools needed, just pull both tabs on the slide and the whole thing pops forward.

My negative on the 9VE is that the sights do not offer good contrast. In the sunlight the dots disappear and the sights do not glow during night use. Other than that, I reccomend this pistol.

Great Bang for the Buck!!! Shipping was delayed as the respopnse during the sale exhausted the supply but it was worth the wait. Lightweight, very reasonable CCW item, 9MM ammo is easier to find that other calibers. Just picked up some good range ammo for $10 a box so I can afford to have even MORE fun shooting this firearm. Trigger pull is a bit long but you can't deny it is great for "safety" factor. I did the spring mod to 3.5 lbs and ended up with several "duds" so I put the original spring back in. Put four magazines thru it and not a single failure. I'll stick with the stock springs! Going to try my fingerless bikers glove or buy a slip grip for it to make the knurled grip more comfortable. Can't go wrong here for a small, lightweight addition to your collection!

It shoots very smooth, the trigger is not hard to pull, and very little recoil. The gun is light and fits my large hand like a glove. There is absolutly nothing wrong with the trigger, in my opinion, it almost pulls too easy! Build quality is awesome for the price, take down and lubing is a snap, ammo is cheap, what is there not to like!

I highly recommend for a first gun! Heck, even a second one....

The purchased experience with Bud's was great!. It took only 2 days to get to my FFL. Buds customer service is excellent. I had read on some forums that the trigger would be gritty right out of the box, mine isn't. The trigger pull would be long, it is. BUT, this is a DAO only semi-auto and that's the way it was designed. I went to the range this past weekend and put 300 rounds thru it. No problems at all. It shot tight groups at 12, 15 and 20 yards. This is a great weapon, at a great price, with a 50 dollar rebate. I purchased mine was the price was 299, I see it's a little higher now, but it is still worth the money!

This is my first of many pistol purchases with bud's and I am not disappointed.Bud's is great to work with.It is hard to get them on the phone due to volume of calls, but they are ontop of there emails. The sigma is a nice gun, they are definatelly on the better/enhanced version. The trigger is not a hard trigger pull,(like others claim)Just a long pull.So you have to move the trigger further back for the gun to fire. The sigma is well put together, and is accurate. However,i have held many of these new sigma's looking for the right one.The issue i have seen on these is the slide needs to have less play left to right on the front of the gun.wait a minate,It has not given me any problems now...It would just help to tighten bullet patterns.I have looked in local stores close and far. They all look just alike. To an exact...The gun is great, and definatelly worth having.

You just need to figure out 2 things.
1Do i want to pay alot more at the local gun store,OR GET IT ALOT CHEAPER AT BUD'S.
2 am i finally going to decide to buy one of these for a great price from bud's BEFORE THEY SELL OUT AGAIN.

Go ahead think they wont. They will. You will kick yourself in the ass, when you see them at he gun store for 489.00.

Transaction with Bud's was great. Status was emailed with tracking number and delivery was fast. My first DA automatic and trigger pull not an issue. Shot several hundred rounds reliably at 20-30 feet and in tight groups that will get better with practice. Have since added Pachmayr grip glove ($10) that really softens the grip and makes it extremely comfortable. Also added a TDR 911 laser from auto-laser.com ($70) that blends into the frame like it was part of the original design. Both gave it an awesome look as well as functionality. Can't imagine a better value for a quality pistol equipped this way for about $400. The S&W $50 rebate until April 1 takes it over the top! Can't recommend it enough...

Even with the reports of a heavy, long trigger, I was able to get fairly accurate quickly and have not had any issues with the pull. It goes BANG every time I pull the trigger, no jams, and cleaning is easy. Can't ask for much more in a name brand firearm for less than $300. (Plus I've sent in for the $50 rebate.) As for Bud's, my only complaints were they were little slow to ship, and you can't get in contact with anyone by phone. They do answer emails quickly though. This is the first time I have purchased a gun from Bud's and It has changed the way I buy guns. This gun for the money is one of the best guns you can find along with the Ruger P95. I purchased this gun just to have in my vehicle but after looking at the fit and finish it ended up in my gun safe. It really shoots well and fits my hand.

People seem to mention that the trigger pull is a little stiff, my take on that is that this gun is not made to be taken to a shooting event right out of the box, it is a working mans gun that is made to be carried. That being said the trigger being harder to pull is a good thing, it would take more force to accidentally pull the trigger.

On top of the great price here at Bud's there is usually a rebate on this gun so you can take advantage of that as well.

I give this gun 5 out of 5 for what it is, one of the best guns on the market for the price.

Great gun for the money. This was my first pistol purchase.. if you're trying to figure out which one to start with it's a good choice. It's a Smith & Wesson, good fit and finish and honestly... it's CHEAP! Very reliable, the slide is stainless, hi-capacity are all things it's got in it's favor.

The down side is the trigger pull. What people have called a "lawyer trigger" or a trigger that makes it very hard to accidentally discharge the weapon. If you are a gun nut and have lots of other pistols to compare it to... or you own some target pistols... or you are the type of guy who is always looking for the "perfect" gun... then you will be disappointed with this pistol.

But if this is your first gun purchase or a gun you liked to add to your collection then it's a great buy and a great value. It's not a pistol you'll want to go to the range with and go through boxes and boxes of ammo.

Bottom line... if you're looking for a good reliable gun, brand name = buy it!

(also, you can have spring replaced to reduce trigger pull)

Remember... the more guns you buy - the more guns you realize you need! Just start!

Purchased the gun from Buds on Weds and had it in hand the next afteroon after overnight shipping, can't say enough about the excellenet transaction and turn around. I shot it today, but don't like the long trigger pull. It is an okay gun, but that trigger pull is really long, so much so that it really impacts the accuracy as you pull it all the way through. I can say one thing, no accidental discharges with this one, it ain't firing unless you pull that trigger a long way. I have Glocks, Springfields, Berettas, Sigs and FNs and this has the longest trigger pull of them all.

I have never bought a gun online before, but Buds did a fantastic job of shipping it to my local gun dealer, who charged me $25 to do the transfer. Still the best deal I could find anywhere. Haven't applied for the $50 rebate yet, but will do that tomorrow, as I just got the gun today. You have to go to Smith's web site to download the coupon. Bud's is great in my opinion.

That night I cleaned the factory oil off of it and headed to the range. I ran over one hundred rounds through it with no misfires or misloads. This is one of the best firing hand guns I own. Add this to the great service and value from Bud's and this is now my new gun shop.

It comes with two magazines which I missed on the specifications and some of reviews that I read. For the price after rebate, this is unbeatable value. As for the trigger issue soem mentioned, I was expecting far heavier pull but it feel totaly okay for me.

Buds did a great job shipping it right away, sending me several follow up emails with tracking info. It was overall pleasant experience doing business with this store - Thanks guys and wish you had a store down in Florida.

I just want to thank all the people who took the time to post reviews on this gun and Bud's gun shop. I received an email that my gun has been shipped so I should have it in a few days. I can't really post a review of the gun, since I have never owned a gun before, but because of something that recently happened on my property, I decided that I need to have something for personal protection. I did not want to spend more than $300.00 and from what I found this gun selling for at a local pawnshop $439.00 Bud's offered a great deal on it. I figured a 9mm would be a decent cal. to have. (I am not the Dirty Harry type) and didn't want something so big that I would not feel comfortable with it. I must say the service I got from Bud's was great. Fast, friendly. I might be looking for a little rifle down the road and I will for sure come back to Bud's when I do. The reviews on this gun sold me, since I really did not know what I really needed. After reading about 40 of them I felt that this gun would be a good choice.

I purchased this SW9VE from Buds a few weeks ago. My son and I went to the range today and shot 300 rounds. Not a single hiccup. My son shot the bull’s-eye out of the target at 25 yards with 6-8 shots (in a row) WOW!!
I agree the trigger pull is a bit stiff, but this does not affect accuracy at all.
We shot a few brands of ammo and found the Fiocchi FMJ 115 gr (purple box) made in Italy is spot on. We did oil the barrel and slides (lightly) 2 times to be safe. Not a single jam or miss-fire.
I will always prefer my revolvers (old school) that we also used today, but most all bull’s eyes were fired from the SW9VE.

I used Federal 115gr, FMJ. The recoil was not bad at all, and I have to say that I do not understand all of the gripes about a hard trigger pull. I am not convinced that I would want it much less. I purchased my S&W SW9VE from Bud's. It was my first order from Bud's, and the customer satisfaction is no lie. very quick shipping.

The gun itself is a bit of nostalgia for me. The first gun I owned was the 40 version of this, and I traded it in towards my first 1911. Even though I'm now addicted to 1911's, I was always disappointed that I traded it. Besides for the trigger, which is, admittedly, awful, the gun is very good for the money.

Out of the 40 version, I never had any failures of any kind, over about 500 rounds. Out of the box on the nine, however, I had a few feeding issues within the first mag, but after that, no failures at all through my first 100 shots. I guess it just needed to warm up. I would have no problem recommending this for a home defense pistol, as long as you understand that the trigger is a ridiculously long pull....like maybe twice as hard as any other gun I've ever fired, which is quite a few. Hey, some people like that because it gives them a more secure feeling that the gun won't misfire. That's not what I feel about it, but I've heard that argument.

All-in-all, I would say if you are considering buying one, try out a friend's first to get a feel for the trigger first hand. If it's something you can tolerate, then the gun is definitely worth the money. For the price range, I might recommend a Taurus Millennium Pro over this, for about 50 dollars more, plus it's a little more concealable, if that's what you are looking for.

Hard to beat for the dollar. For my own comfort, I slipped on a rubber grip sleeve and found a custom laser (one piece) and Feel it is as complete as I need it to be. 300+ rounds and not a single misfeed or FTE. The fit for me is great and raises to target readily- like second nature. Trigger issues don't bother me- this isn't a match shooting weapon and if use on a BG becomes necessary, adrenaline will negate any concern or whining about trigger pull. I have not felt the need for trigger work at this point, I have learned it and am comfortable with it as is. The Sigma is an excellent primary or backup, stripping is relatively simple, and the ergos are very well planned and designed. High quality, low price. Those merits alone make it a 5'er.

Great gun for the price. Like others have noted it does have a 9 pound trigger pull which for me is not a problem since I will never be a marksman. For those who do want very accurate shots get the spring changed for the trigger and lower the pull to 7 or 5.

Very easy to disassemble and clean. Looking at the other 9 mm for the price it’s easily the best bang for the buck. I want another 9 mm but do I pay $600 for a Glock and find out it’s no better than the S&W? I would be REALLY pissed.

I have fired 1,000 rounds or more and after the first 200 it doesn’t misfire. Nothing but cheapo ammo. I keep it cleaned and in pristine condition and it always fires. I do rapid fire without any problems. The gun gets used at least once a month.

The perfect self defense weapon for the casual gun enthusiast or people on a budget.

I have now put 750 rounds through it (3 packs of the 250 count remington UMC 9mm mega pack) and have not yet had a single malfunction. I am also a relatively new shooter (to handguns that is) but at 15 yards I hold 3.5" groups centered on the bull's eye with this gun. I could not be happier, and the amount of money I saved on the pistol bought me 1000 rounds of 9mm ammunition.

Bud's Service: I will not complain because I undersstand they have been under a lot of load since the election I will just report the stats. I ordered it and it took 12 days to arrive at my FFL in Cali. Thanks to my FFL holding weird hours and the 10 day Cali waiting period it ended up taking 26 calendar days from the time I purchased the gun on buds till the time I got my hands on it. All in all, with the massive number of firearms orders since immigrant obama bin biden won the election, I think buds has done great. But, if you do not have the patience to wait 26 calendar days, you should just buy from your local dealer.

I purchased mine several weeks ago. While I was waiting for it to arrive I read a fairly critical review - someone who didn't like the trigger and consequently couldn't get the gun to shot the way the wanted it to shoot (presumably they wanted to be able to hit a target accurately).

At any rate I was a little nervous about the gun. When it arrived it took me a little while to get used to the trigger - it has a long pull. But, once I started to use a preload on the trigger - i.e. pulling it in about 3/4 of the way in anticipation of the final pull (always pointed at the target of course), my accuracy has gone up considerably - hit 5 / 5 bulls tonight at 7 yards. Could probably now repeat the feat indefinately now that I'm comfortable with the gun.

This is a great gun and a tremendous value.
