Hi Taylor and welcome. Your FFL is not entirely correct. With a "Fixed Magazine" you can have the other features on a rifle in CT. I would speak with and look at some of the CT legal AR's at Dark Storm: https://www.dark-storm.com/dsi/dsi-fixed-mag-firearms/

looks like you have 2 choices with a fixed mag you can have features you cant have with the detachable mag or you can have a detachable mag but none of these features 1. A folding or telescoping stock 2. Any grip of the weapon, including a pistol grip, a thumbhole stock, or any other stock, the use of which would allow an individual to grip the weapon, resulting in any finger on the trigger hand in addition to the trigger finger being directly below any portion of the action of the weapon when firing. 3. A forward pistol grip 4. A bayonet mount 5. A flash suppressor 6. A threaded barrel 7. A grenade launcher or flare launcher 8. Magazine Capacity over 10 rounds
