this gun has a small cutout at the back of the barrel that you can look in and see the brass Really this style LCI is kind of useless but required by some states. see pic https://www.smith-wesson.com/product/s-w-equalizer-ts others have a lever which is pushed up by the loaded round. with these you can verify a loaded shell in low light or without taking your eye off the target
