Most manufacturers make pistols without the manual safety as well to cater to the part of the population that prefer not to have this feature. many folks got used to the Glock era that started this craze. So it's just an optional configuration as some prefer the manual safety and some do not. Welcome to the Community and shooting sports!

the Smith and Wesson M&P series pistols are mad both with and without thumb safetys because people like me will not carry a striker fired gun without the thumb safety but others want their carry gun to not have that thumb safety (like the glock) so the make models for both groups of people
