As long as there was no actual metal structure damage, an the cylinder still rotates freely when pulling the triger, it should work just fine with a new set of grips. If I had any concerns with safety issues after inspecting it myself I would take it to a local gunsmith. If I felt everything was safe I would fire a round and see how it fired compared to before the fire. (Keeping in mind what power a .44 mag. has)Taurus would want you to send it to them and if it is unrepairable shipping would not be worth it especially to get it back.
