Modern screw in chokes will give you many advantages over fixed choke barrels Kyle. Screw in chokes will allow you to use virtually any choke without having to change barrels. This will accommodate any shot size. Slugs you will want to shoot with the cylinder bore with a choke installed in a smooth bore barrel. Exotic rounds would not be an issue as they are safe for any shotgun barrel. You can shoot without a screw in choke installed as this will yield just the standard cylinder bore.

I've always used a fixed. The screw-in chokes are great but I've always felt that if you know how to shoot, a reasonable fixed configuration can do anything. Improved and Mod has been a favorite for a reason. You can do about anything with it. If you're hunting doves/quail with a 12 gauge, a 1 oz load of 7 1/2's or 6's is perfect with Improved and Mod. If you're going to be shooting 60 yards, use some hotter ammo. If you're a factory ammo guy, go with any standard ammo. They're hotter with heavier shot and they'll keep a clean pattern at 50-60 yards with Improved and Mod. Maybe you're looking for ducks and geese. Use hotter. Shoot a 1 1/4 of 2's. You can do that in a 2 3/4 inch shell too. If you're a factory ammo shooter, go 3 inch. - If you're shooting skeet that requires full and skeet 2, then screw in chokes. But really, as far as hunting goes, I've never needed anything more than Improved, Mod or Full.

Screw in chokes are great but you must check them regularly as you shoot to make sure they stay tight and it's harder to clean the barrel because you need to clean the threads too. I have one shotgun I bought with screw in chokes that obviously was not cleaned properly and the choke is stuck in the threads and will not come out with normal pressure on the wrench. Penetrating oil and time will fix it though.

Mark G shoot the gun until the barrel is hot (round or two of 5 stand should do it) then while it is still hot use the wrench and more than likely the choke will come out
