Something (understandably) not, generally advertised with these types of soft panels is that, although they may stop a bullet, they wont stop it from breaking a rib or 2, or leaving a bruise the size of a paper plate. Isn't that the case?

Very true Mark. This also depends on the material and disbursement of the projectiles impact. In other words you could still be hurt very seriously..
