Hi Randall, I actually own the 9mm Extreme. It is one of my favorites to shoot. I do have a Streamlight on it for home defense but I take that off at the range. It is very accurate!

Excellent ratings so far with no major reported problems like some other pistols. Ammunition and practice for familiarity first. An inexpensive laser in an invaluable tool for learning good trigger control. A minimum of 5 magazines and a comfortable holster. For home protection a quality laser/light combo. Lots of folks train only with light target loads and develop muscle memory on that. This pistol can handle the NATO 8mm FMJ on occasion to give you the power close to self-defense ammo.
To start with its a sig it is a superb gun so far no issues have been reported and because its a sig if any problems arise you can rest assured that Sig will fix them
I've owned several P226's and loved them all. Actually wore one out. They are the best pistols I ever used in the field. The magazines tolerate dirt better than any I've seen. For competition they are not the best though. They are not "race guns" and the best I ever did with them in USPSA competition was the top 30% at any match. The matches are great practice to learn to move and shoot your pistol. A Bladetech Eclipse holster and a couple of mag pouches should do it.
