They are a Zinc alloy a full steel 1911 slide would be to heavy to function with 22lr from the review "While some shooters may complain about the use of zinc alloy in the frames, Walther has stated that this is a sophisticated zinc alloy that they selected for its durability, and therefore, they do not anticipate any issues with the frames as a result.
