can the Buffalo Bore Plus P 45 acp ammo be fired safely in this firearm? Also, if it can be fired safely in this firearm, are there any modifications that may need to be done? Such as a heavier, recoil spring.

Hi Michael and welcome. It can fire it no issue. I would highly recommend a heavier recoil spring to mitigate frame battering and reducing slide velocity for better recoil control. Cheers and stay safe!

Yes it can but like James said a heavier spring is advisable and also more frequent spring replacements
