Hi John and welcome. The Colt 1911 Classic .45 ACP has an internal safety mechanism, the grip safety. This safety prevents the gun from firing if the grip is not fully and properly engaged. In addition to the grip safety, the 1911 also has a thumb safety and a half-cock notch, further enhancing its safety features. The Tisas 1911's have the same. Cheers and stay safe!

Series 70 1911 do not have the internal safety you are thinking about. That is the series 80. Most 1911 now a days have a titanium firing pin that keeps the weapon from slam firing when dropped.
