Hi Denny, This factory manufactured threaded barrel for the Ruger SR22 has standard 1/2x28 threads for use with any muzzle device including the Ruger Silent-SR. Installation is quick and easy with no gunsmithing required. The purpose of it basically allows you to add a suppressor or silencer to your firearm since you would now have a threaded barrel. Danny, Pros = the ability now or in the future to add muzzle attachments such as suppressors or flash hiders. Cons = 99% of folks will never need/use this feature so would be money better spent for ammunition..
