Hi Daniel, as far as I know, this comes with a metal dust cover. DD switched to polymer dust covers on the newer M4A1 RIII models. The logic is that the plastic dust cover won't deform permanently and will seal better than a metal one. From DD "Our new polymer dust cover was not implemented as a cost savings measure. It's actually very expensive to do. We carefully evaluated and thoroughly tested this new design and feel that it is a definite upgraded over traditional style ejection port covers. Our new dust covers being constructed of a high quality blend of polymers will not rust, bend, or deform. It also has no sharp edges and we were able to design it with an incorporated "gasket" to create a better seal when it's in the closed position."
