As we get older, I'm getting there too, we must sometimes change out our tools. I think what you've switched over to makes perfect sense in my opinion!
Good evening to you!! The Browning A-5 is an excellent tool of choice. Just remember that with a semi- automatic shotgun they can be finicky. Shoot it a lot to find what feeds it well for the quarry you hunt. Hope this helps. Have a good rest of your day. 🇺🇸🇺🇸 'Merica' 🇺🇸🇺🇸
Hi Henry and welcome. The Browning A-5 would fill the bill quite nicely. A semi-Auto would work no issue. A known trick to cycle even the lightest loads reliably is to store a semi-auto with the bolt locked back to season the spring to fully compress as the initial stiff recoil spring is the bane of many light loads until a rigorous break in period. This will shorten that break-in drastically. Cheers, stay safe and enjoy!
Sir Henry, The Browning A-5 20 gauge is an excellent choice for your needs, especially given your preference for a lightweight, versatile, and reliable shotgun. Its semi-automatic action reduces felt recoil, making it more comfortable to shoot, especially as you age. The 20 gauge offers enough power for dove, quail, and turkey hunting while being significantly lighter than your Remington 870 12 gauge, which can reduce fatigue during long hunts. Considering your age and desire for a lighter firearm, the A-5's balance, reduced weight, and ease of handling align well with your goals. The classic design and proven reliability of Browning's A-5 make it a popular choice among hunters seeking a lightweight, all-around shotgun. Other Recommendations Benelli Montefeltro (20 or 28 gauge): Known for its lightweight design, smooth semi-automatic operation, and low recoil. It's a durable, high-quality option suitable for various game. Beretta A300 Outlander (20 gauge): Offers reliable semi-auto
