Hi Lawrence, while it is still considered new (since it has never been sold before), I agree this is a bad policy. Corrosion on the brass head of 20-year-old ammunition can affect its performance, potentially causing it to misfire or not fire at all. Corrosion Effects - Functionality: Corrosion on the brass casing can lead to malfunctions. It may cause the round to misfire, fire at a lower velocity, or not fire at all. Structural Integrity: Corroded brass can weaken the casing. This increases the risk of case ruptures when fired, which can be dangerous. . I would contact Bud's and ask for a refund. Take pictures ahead of time so you can email Bud's the corrosion damage. 1-859-368-0371 9am-8pm EST Mon-Fri. or use the Blue Chat now button at the bottom right corner 9am to 8pm Mon Good luck, stay safe & have a great day!
Hi Lawrence and welcome. This is a bad policy, no two ways around it. Since ammo can't be returned, I would contact Winchester Customer Service with the lot number and see if they will replace it for you with a more recent lot. Buds and any retailer should vet all inventory to insure recent production ammunition. 20 years is quite the discrepancy. Winchester will likely make it right. ---------- https://winchester.com/Support/Customers/Contact-Us ------- Cheers and stay safe!
Wow, because I showed distain in my first comment about this situation, my comment is under "Review"?!?
Sir Lawrence, While retailers aren't legally required to sell only new ammunition, receiving a 20-year-old, corroded product is a quality concern. Most buyers expect fresh stock, and a 2005 production date exceeds the recommended 10-20 year shelf life for optimal performance. Ammunition can last decades with proper storage but may degrade over time, especially if corroded. Corrosion indicates potential safety risks and unreliable performance, which can mislead customers. I would personally return the damaged ammo by contacting customer service and explaining the condition. Do not fire the ammunition to preserve your claim. You can also request store credit if a refund isn't available. Good luck Sir Lawrence and please stay safe ππ»
I would call Bud's @ 1-859-368-0371 9am-8pm EST Mon-Fri.
