The best shot gun for home defense is the one that is right for you. In my personal opinion, the best shotgun for home defense (and the one I use) is a Mossberg 500, 12 Guage. It's what I have and it's very versatile depending on the job at hand. Personally I chose the Beretta 1301, although it's unnecessary I wanted a top tier shotgun for home defense, the Beretta a300 patrol is another great choice these are what I would consider the best if the best home defense and tactical shotguns

I like a bull-pup shotgun for home defense. It's more compact and good for going around corners, thru doorways in a home defense situation.

Hello!! The best shotgun for home defense is a pump action shotgun such as the Mossberg 500 or Remington 870. I recommend a pump do to its simplicity of use and being less likely to jam in a high stress situation.
