The Rock Island Armory VR60 12-gauge shotgun operates best with 2¾-inch or 3-inch shells, handling birdshot, buckshot, and slugs effectively. A "break-in" period with heavier loads (like 00 buck or high-brass) is often recommended to ensure reliable cycling, especially with new, stiff magazines. Suggested Loads and Tips: Best Reliability: Heavy target loads or 00 buckshot (2¾ or 3-inch) are recommended to ensure the gas system cycles properly. Ammo Considerations: While it can shoot lighter birdshot, some users report occasional jamming with lighter loads until broken in. Chokes: Utilize the included interchangeable chokes (Full, Modified, Improved Cylinder) to optimize performance based on load. Capacity: The VR60 features a 5-round, detachable box magazine. Always use high-quality ammunition to avoid the feeding issues reported with some types of ammunition.
Hi Gary and welcome. You will need to break in with high brass loads in 2 3/4 and or 3-inch shells for 50 or so rounds. Some recommended break in loads of each are: https://www.budsgunshop.com/product_info.php/products_id/178777/rio+ammunition+rb129+royal+buck+12+gauge+2.75+buckshot+9+pellets+00+buck+shot+5+bx+50+cs ----------------------------------------------------------------- https://www.budsgunshop.com/product_info.php/products_id/151154/rio+game+load+high+velocity+12+gauge+ammo+6+shot+25+round+box ------------------------------------------------------------ To expedite the break in period, store the VR60 with the bolt locked back to condition the spring for full rearward travel even with lighter loads. Cheers and stay safe!
Hi Gary, using loads above 1300fps is suggested for better cycling performance. As long as it is at least 1300 fps, high brass or low brass doesn't matter. Avoid light recoil or reduced recoil loads. Due to variation in ammo and firearms some guns may work with lighter loads and some may not. https://www.budsgunshop.com/product_info.php/products_id/121023/federal+top+gun+12+ga+ammo+2.75+1+oz+8+shot+1300fps+25rd+box , . https://www.budsgunshop.com/product_info.php/products_id/182406/federal+master+class+shotgun+ammo+12+gauge+2.75+1oz+7.5+25+rounds .
